DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

ONE is a global advocacy and campaigning organization backed by more than 2 million people from around the world dedicated to fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. ONE has offices in Washington, DC, London, Berlin and Abuja.  This position will work out of our DC location and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

The Director of Finance is responsible for the day-to-day financial management and administration of ONE, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and payables and receivables.  The Director of Finance is also responsible for ensuring ONE adheres to internal controls and other finance and accounting policies.  Compliance with nonprofit accounting rules, grant tracking and reporting are also included.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work collaboratively with COO to ensure ONE is financially sustainable and accountable to its funders and key stakeholders
  • Supervise Finance Coordinator to ensure accurate maintenance of financial data in ONE's financial/accounting system
  • Ensure 100% adherence to internal controls and major stated fiduciary policies
  • Monitor cash position
  • Ensure ONE stays current with payables and receivables
  • Work with COO to develop budget forecast
  • Work with senior directors to develop team level budgets and to monitor and modify budgets on an ongoing basis
  • Work with senior directors and managers to develop and monitor project specific budgets
  • Work with COO to manage financial aspects of donor and other key stakeholder relationships
  • Produce timely and accurate financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Produce financial reports on an as-needed basis
  • Prepare ONE for annual independent audit
  • Work with auditors to complete field work, to fulfill all PBC requests, etc.
  • Work with ONE's COO and third-party investment manager to monitor ONE's operating and short-, and long-term reserves
  • Ensure ONE's compliance with nonprofit accounting rules
  • Ensure ONE's compliance with IRS rules for 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations
  • Ensure ONE's compliance with IRS 990 filings

SPECIFIC TYPES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelors required, CPA preferred
  • At least 7 years financial and accounting experience in a non-profit setting
  • Experience managing financials for a global organization with offices in the EU
  • Detail oriented and ability to successfully multi-task
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills; ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, results oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Strict confidentiality and a proven ability to exercise good judgment are essential
  • Works well under pressure and tight deadlines
