US Legislative Priorities: Elevation of Development in U.S. Foreign Policy and Foreign Aid Reform

U.S. foreign policy and national security are built on three interconnected pillars - Defense, Diplomacy and Development-- the ‘3Ds.' Currently, development does not receive the same priority as the other two pillars. In order to succeed in eliminating extreme poverty and meeting the U.S. national security challenges of the 21 century, ONE advocates that Development be elevated and prioritized as a key foreign policy issue. ONE supports modernization of the U.S. foreign aid system, to improve coordination and aid effectiveness, as well as boosting funding levels for development assistance to fight poverty and help restore America's image in the world. For aid reform to be successful, it will require the cooperation between Congress and the Administration
