ONE's new advert 'The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity' has been banned from being broadcast in the UK. The advert aims to focus the world's attention on the famine and food crisis in the Horn of Africa. Clearcast, the body which is responsible for clearance of television adverts, claims that ONE and the advert do not comply with rules covering political advertising in the UK.

A group of prominent African artists, musicians, and business people have today called on world leaders to take urgent action to prevent further suffering and loss of life in the horn of Africa, ahead of a crucial UN summit in New York this Saturday.

Speaking after the FAO meeting in Rome today [Monday], Jamie Drummond, Executive Director of ONE, said:
"Aid is desperately needed to save lives now, and we hope that today's meeting results in a swift acceleration in the international community's response to this crisis. We note the additional pledges by Australia, Germany and others, and hope that the countries that have so far been slow to act follow-suit. The international community must agree to fill the remaining gap on an emergency basis, and within the week. The world will be watching."

Anti-poverty group ONE is calling on world leaders to provide the aid that is urgently needed for the drought-stricken Horn of Africa. An emergency UN meeting is being held in Rome today to galvanise the international community’s response to the crisis, which has been criticised for being too slow. $1 billion is still needed for emergency assistance, including food, water and sanitation.
