  • ONE calls on President Kikwete to tackle food security

    A group of smallholder farmers and ordinary African citizens marched to State House Tanzania today to deliver a petition signed by more than 16,000 Africans.  The petition calls on African leaders to provide greater food security for ordinary Africans by investing more in support for smallholder farmers. Campaigners called on President Jakaya Kikwete to take the lead on investment in sustainable agriculture, setting an example for other African Leaders.   More

  • Global drive against hunger needed to end famine for good

    The UN today reports famine conditions in Somalia have ended. Anti-poverty campaign group ONE calls for world leaders to ensure that this is the last famine in history.  Adrian Lovett, Europe Director of ONE, said: "We called on world leaders to fight this obscene famine. Because millions of ordinary people spoke out and some of those leaders responded generously, hundreds of thousands of people who faced imminent death are alive today. But the end of this famine must mark the beginning of a global drive against hunger." More

    Mexico will take over the G20 at a stormy time for the global economy. Mexico can lead on restoring a truly global outlook to the G20, with Africa as part of the solution to the growth and debt crises that has dominated in France.  When ONE co-founder Bono met with President Calderón in May there was strong agreement the G20 should continue to focus on fighting poverty.
