ONE members with Senate candidate Lee Fisher
ONE is hitting the campaign trail to find out where candidates stand on extreme poverty. Stay tuned for more updates like this one from our field team and organizers on the road.
This past Friday, Ohio State University ONE members Kirsten Brademeyer and Stephanie Sobek and I drove to downtown Cleveland for a Senate debate sponsored by the City Club of Cleveland. We were very excited to be there in our ONE shirts to help represent ONE and the need for continued efforts to fight extreme poverty and global disease in Africa.
After Senate candidates Lee Fisher and Rob Portman debated, we were able to briefly talk with them both and urge them to support international life-saving programs and policies if elected to the Senate. We were proud that both candidates immediately recognized us, and each candidate gladly took a photo with all of us!
Only 23 days until the election! Be sure to join us on Facebook and Twitter for frequent updates.

This past Saturday, several Ohio ONE members and I went out to a rally for Senate candidate Lee Fisher — who was also joined by “Glee” star Matthew Morrison, also known by fans as “Mr. Schuester.” We gave Matthew a ONE shirt and wristband and told him about ONE and our efforts to rally Americans in the fight against extreme poverty in Africa. He told us that he had already heard of ONE!

We are just thirty days away from the election and Ohio ONE members are working to visit both Ohio Senate candidates and ensure that our next senator knows that continued American leadership can help save millions of lives in the poorest parts of the world.
On Friday, I drove for two hours with a group of ONE members to St. Clairsville, Ohio for an event with Senate Candidate Rob Portman. As soon as we got there, people recognized our ONE shirts, and before Mr. Portman gave his speech, we were able to meet with him for a few minutes and talk about our efforts with ONE.

I attended a college Democrats event for Senate candidate Lee Fisher at Ohio State University’s campus last night with a few other ONE members.
As soon as we got there, Mr. Fisher immediately recognized us in our ONE shirts. While he was talking, he referenced us and told everyone how our efforts with ONE “can really make a difference”.

Five ONE members and I attended a rally for Ohio Governor Ted Strickland who was joined by special guest Vice President Joe Biden at the University of Akron yesterday. While waiting for the speakers to arrive, we sparked up a conversation with a couple University of Akron students who were so intrigued by us that they threw on our ONE shirts and wristbands!
After the event, Vice President Biden shook hands with the first few rows of the crowd and when he got to us he said, “ONE! Thanks for your work!” We thanked him for being a champion for the world’s poor, and then urged him to support ONE’s ask of 6 billion dollars to the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria over the next 3 years.
Vice President Biden immediately put on the ONE band, grabbed my camera from my hand, and gave it to a nearby secret service agent so we could take a picture with him! He also took the time to shake the hands of our other volunteers further down the line.

ONE members posing with a Pres. Clinton.
Last night, 15 ONE members and I attended a rally for U.S. Senate candidate Lee Fisher, who was joined by special guest, former President Bill Clinton.
We all had our “ONE Vote 2010” shirts on and took up an entire row in the middle of the 600-seat auditorium.
Everyone was full of energy and excited to hear Pres. Clinton speak. He briefly mentioned Haiti in his speech which focused mainly on the economy.

Beth and Gov. Huckabee
This morning, I was able to catch up with Gov. Mike Huckabee at a luncheon for U.S. Senate candidate Rob Portman in Mason, Ohio. I told Gov. Huckabee about our efforts in Ohio with ONE Vote 2010.
I also thanked him for his support for ONE and for being a champion of ending extreme poverty. As a former presidential candidate, Huckabee participated in “On the Record” during ONE Vote 2008 and traveled to Rwanda with ONE. He told me how thrilled he was to be a part of the trip with ONE, how he wishes us the best of luck, and thanked us for all that we do.
