ONE members Matt, Angie and Matt with Kelly Ayotte and Sen. Scott Brown

Friday night was Trick or Treat night in Concord, N.H., and Main Street was closed off for kids (and adults) who were dressed up for the spooky holiday.

I made my way down the street with a few ONE members who were decked out in their own costumes: ONE shirts. We ran into US Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte and Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown who were talking with Granite State voters as they campaigned in Concord. Kelly Ayotte immediately recognized us and we thanked her for her time with ONE members all across New Hampshire. And Sen. Brown said that he too knew about ONE and mentioned seeing ONE and ONE members on Capitol Hill last month! I told him about our efforts to save lives in Africa, and told him how I met his daughter Ayla Brown when she performed a concert in Manchester, N.H., this past summer.

Both Kelly Ayotte and Sen. Brown took time to get a photo with us in our ONE shirts before making their way down the street.

Gov. Mitt Romney and ONE member Tom Leary

On Friday morning, ONE member Tom Leary went to Salem, New Hampshire for a GOP rally that featured former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, just like ONE member Phillip did in South Carolina last week.

Tom caught up with Gov. Romney and thanked him for his past ideas and thoughts for the world’s poorest people and snapped a quick photo with with him, too.

By using your voice with ONE, you can help celebrate great bipartisan efforts to fight AIDS, malaria and hunger in Africa, and urge even bolder leadership in the future that will continue to save millions of lives!

On Thursday afternoon, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell traveled to the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester, N.H., to campaign for John Stephen, who is running for governor of New Hampshire.

We had a moment with Gov. Barbour before the event. He saw ONE the last time he was in New Hampshire and also spoke with Jordan, a ONE member, the day before in Iowa.

He said that he was given a white ONE band and he gladly accepted another one from me. We chatted about how PEPFAR was started under President George Bush and how John McCain has always been a great friend to ONE members along the campaign trail.

On Friday morning, ONE member Tom Leary woke up super early and made it over to a breakfast in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to speak with former New Hampshire U.S. Senator John E. Sununu at an event for his brother, Chris Sununu, who is running for local office here in New Hampshire.

Tom thanked Sen. Sununu for the work he did on behalf of the world’s poorest people for over a decade, in the U.S. House and Senate. As many ONE members know, Sen. Sununu joined ONE Vote 2010′s National Advisory Committee to help ensure continued American leadership in the developing world.

Sen. Sununu told Tom that he was aware of the ground work of ONE members in NH to make sure that our next US Senator goes to Washington with the poorest people in mind. Tom gave him a ONE band which he immediately put on his left wrist.

Later in the day, I tried to catch up with Senator Sununu at the Soda Shoppe in Laconia where he was making a public appearance, but he left before we were able to speak – but he definitely saw my ONE shirt and knows that we are well organized in New Hampshire. I look forward to the next time I can speak with him about our efforts with ONE, and thank him for the work he started on issues like debt relief with then Rep. John Kasich and Bobby Shriver back in 1999.

Plouffe Hodes Oct 21 Keene 008[2]

On Thursday afternoon, President Obama’s 2008 campaign manager David Plouffe came to New Hampshire’s Keene State College to campaign on behalf of U.S. Senate candidate Paul Hodes, and a U.S. congressional candidate.

After hearing everyone speak, and even listening to Congressmen Hodes pick up a guitar and jam with a student band, ONE member Tom Leary and I found a moment to speak with David Plouffe.

We introduced ourselves and explained ONE, and how we aim to rally Americans in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable diseases in Africa. He indicated he knew the importance of our issues and accepted a ONE band from us. We also thanked him for President Obama’s $4 billion pledge to the Global Fund over three years.

ONE member Tom Leary was also able to speak with Congressmen Hodes and thank him for taking the time out of his schedule to go “On the Record” with ONE, to let all of New Hampshire’s ONE members know where he stands on our issues. Congressmen Hodes thanked us for our work and said he was happy to do it.

We are getting closer to election day, but ONE members know that our work extends past the campaign trail, to encourage bold leadership from our elected officials, to help support proven programs and policies and to help save lives in the poorest nations around the world.

New Hampshire Senate candidates go ‘On the Record’ with ONE

For months now, ONE members have been hitting the trail in the Granite State to urge continued leadership in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease in Africa, and to make sure that the next senator from New Hampshire knows that saving lives in the poorest nations on earth is not only possible, but it is a priority. US Senate candidates Kelly Ayotte and Paul Hodes have seen ONE at their campaign events across the state, worn their ONE bands, posed for pictures and talked with ONE members about US efforts to save lives in Africa.

Just like ONE Vote ’08, we asked candidates to make time for the ten thousand New Hampshire ONE members, and the world’s poorest people, and answer our 2010 ONE Vote question:

ONE’s vision for Africa is rooted in a moral and humanitarian desire to help the most vulnerable people, a recognition that building economic opportunities abroad creates opportunities at home, and a strategic understanding that our national security is intertwined with the stability of poor countries across the globe. Through bipartisan cooperation in Washington, the US has been a leader in helping provide millions of Africans with life-saving medicine, children with the chance to go to school, and women with the tools to feed their families, while investing in sustainable economic growth and tackling corruption to ensure scarce resources are used as intended.

How best can the US continue to tackle global disease, poverty, and hunger?

Here is what each one of them told ONE:

Kelly Ayotte (R)

Paul Hodes (D)

We would like to thank both Kelly Ayotte, Paul Hodes, their campaign staffs and all of the ONE members who used their voices to help make this happen. We are proud of American efforts to save lives in the poorest nations on earth, and encourage continued leadership in the Senate, no matter who wins in November.

But we are not done yet, ONE members will continue to be in action across New Hampshire as we continue to advocate for life saving policies and programs for the world’s poorest people. Help us keep the pressure up over the next 11 days by joining Team New Hampshire: http://www.one.org/us/actnow/vote2010/state/join.html?state=newhampshire

After being seen all over the Today Show last month, ONE was hot on the campaign trail in New York City last night outside a private event right by Grand Central Terminal!

In the cool New York night, we had the opportunity to connect the dots with Sen. John Thune (R-ND), who immediately recognized us after ONE members were able to talk with him in Colorado late last week.

We also got to speak with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), and thank him for his vote for PEPFAR back in 2008.

And right after the event ended, I ran into senate candidate Kelly Ayotte from New Hampshire. I was to able to talk with her about ONE and thank her for always making time for the world’s poorest people as she campaigns in the Granite State. She was very complimentary of ONE, and took time to snap an awesome picture while holding a ONE shirt!

ayotte

It was a great night on the trail, and another great night for ONE in New York as we urge our elected leaders to do all they can to help fight extreme poverty and global disease in the poorest places on earth.
