Sen. Hillary Clinton filed for the New Hampshire Primary on Friday and like every other candidate, she sat down at the famous desk in the NH Secretary of State’s Office, the same seat that a few of the girls from the African Children’s Choir sat in last week.
Sen. Clinton was joined by her state co-chair Bill Shaheen and greeted by NH State Sen. Maggie Hasson, both NH ONE Ambassadors. I could even see Sen. Hasson’s ONE band when she shook hands with Hillary!
After filing, Hillary made her way through the Hall of Flags and when she saw me, she noticed my ONE Vote ‘08 pin, and came right up to me asking about the ONE Campaign. I was able to talk with her about President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the new, fresh but struggling Liberia. Hillary told me how she has known President Johnson Sirleaf for years and how supportive she was.
Right before Hillary left the state house to give a speech to the large crowd that had gathered outside, ONE’s Marine, Michael Castaldo in his black ONE shirt, was able to catch the attention of Hillary and yelled out, “Madame Senator!” while holding out a ONE band. Hillary stopped and went over to Michael and immediately put on a ONE band and made her way to the stage where she saw and heard from many more ONE members in the crowd.
The NH filing period closes today, but ONE’s work is not done! From Sammi in Seattle, to Michael in the Granite State, and the 2.4 million ONE members in between, we are all doing our part to make sure our nation is doing everything we can to fight global disease and extreme poverty. We will make sure that the next president of the United States knows that saving lives in the poorest nations on Earth is not just possible, it is a priority!
On Wednesday night, Senator Hillary Clinton spoke at Iowa State University. The lecture focused on the role of women in politics and society. The senator talked about the importance of education for all and equal rights for women, whether they live in the United States or Afghanistan.
Several ONE members were in the crowd, proudly wearing ONE shirts and wristbands. After the lecture, Sen. Clinton greeted students individually. Tyler Barrett, treasurer of the ONE Campaign at ISU, shook the senator’s hand and when she saw his T-shirt, Sen. Clinton commented on her support of the ONE Campaign.
While I was waiting in line, I had a chance to chat with Christie Vilsack, the former first lady of Iowa, who said she would be happy to wear a ONE band. A few minutes later, I got to meet Sen Clinton too, and asked her to wear a ONE wristband, which she was happy to do! She then posed for a picture with me and continued shaking hands while wearing the ONE band!

Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain placed essays in the November/December issue of Foreign Affairs with previews of the policies each would pursue if elected president in 2008.
I attended a townhall meeting for Hillary Clinton at Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina on Saturday.
150 Florence residents and a handful of reporters attended the event where Hillary urged residents to use their voices and vote in the 2008 election. After a 20-minute speech, I was luckily selected to ask a question.
I asked: “As you know, there are 1 billion people in the world who live on less than $1 per day. In the 1st year of your administration, what would the relationship between the U.S and the world’s poorest people look like?”
Sen. Clinton responded by thanking me for being a part of the ONE Campaign and explained to the audience what ONE is all about. She then said that she would advocate for education for all the children around the world (particularly girls), expanding everyone’s access to clean water, and more education to prevent the spread of HIV.
After answering one more question, Hillary made her way to me to pose for a picture and thanked me for attending.
Sen. Clinton came to New Hampshire yesterday and ONE member Melissa Skinner was able to talk with her after she gave a speech in Derry.
Melissa told Sen. Clinton that she is a volunteer for the ONE Campaign and that she had just come back from Africa (with her church group). Melissa went on to say that our nation can save millions of lives in Africa through smart debt relief programs, and through legislation like the Education for All Act.
Sen. Clinton agreed, so Melissa asked her if she would give a global poverty speech - and Hillary said that she would!
She even took a ONE band as she left and I got it all on tape.

Top Democratic presidential hopefuls courted voters at the Tom Harkin Steak Fry Fundraiser and ONE Vote ‘08 was there. Michele, Sarah, and I were able to band and briefly chat with most of the candidates.
Senator John Edwards was happy to put on a band and pose for a photo. He even said “I love the ONE Campaign.” After fighting our way through a very enthusiastic crowd to get to Senator Hillary Clinton she very graciously posed for a photo before taking and band and thanking us for being there. Senator Joe Biden was very courteous in accepting a band, putting it on immediately, and wearing it the rest of the afternoon. After posing for a photo he told us how much he appreciates the campaign and talked about how he had great experience working with Bono years ago.
Governor Bill Richardson took time to come over to our booth and visit us on this busy day immediately getting a band and putting it on. He spoke of our cause to the crowd before heading to the stage.
The ONE message is getting louder and it is getting through.

Sen. Hillary Clinton was in New Hampshire yesterday so ONE Vote ‘08 caught up with her at a small local bookstore in Warner, NH.
Because there were so many people that showed up to see Hillary, we set up behind the lines so when Hillary came out she would definitely hear from ONE members. We waited patiently and noticed that Hillary was traveling with her NH campaign co-chairs, Judge Bill Shaheen, and NH Speaker of the House Terie Norelli - both have pledged their support as NH ONE Ambassadors.
When Hillary came out of the bookstore there was a mad rush of people to speak with her and shake hands. I could not get close to the senator but ONE member Lindsay, decked out in her ONE Vote ‘08 shirt, was able to thank her for the Education for All Act that she introduced with Sen. Smith, and if passed EFA would help enroll millions of children in the developing world into basic primary education.
Hillary immediately lit up to Lindsay’s comment, thanked her and told the crowd how the EFA is one of her top priorities. Hillary then looked around and I was able to stand on my tip toes and give her the thumbs up and thank her for her efforts on behalf of the bottom billion in the world. Hillary thanked me and all of the members of the ONE Campaign for our efforts.
By staying informed with the ONE Campaign, we have the ability to articulate the change we want to see in the world. From Sammi in Seattle, WA - to Lindsay in NH, and all of the ONE members across the nation - we can use our voice to make sure our country is doing all we can to help end the suffering of millions of people around the world, and finally make poverty history.
Hillary Clinton held a town hall meeting in Pahrump, NV, on Monday and ONE volunteer and Pahrump resident Sharon Whalen was there to ask Senator Clinton about her commitment to ONE.
During the Q and A Sharon asked Senator Clinton what she would to do as president to educate the millions of children around the world who do not have access to free primary education.
Senator Clinton noted Sharon’s ONE t-shirt and what an important issue this is to her, she went on to say how familiar she is with ONE’s efforts to raise awareness about the issue.
Hillary told the audience that education is a key element to alleviating extreme poverty and that many of these children end up receiving their education through extremist Islamic madras’s. “Educating these children is an issues of national security,” Hillary told the crowd.
Sharon gave Senator Clinton a ONE wristband and we were able to thank her again for her efforts to educate children throughout the world.
From Pahrump to Elko, to Reno, to Vegas, ONE Nevada will be there to meet every presidential contender and infuse global poverty into the national debate.

Sen. Hillary Clinton campaigned for president in New Hampshire on Wednesday. At a town hall meeting in Rochester, she ran into a few ONE volunteers out on the trail and showing support for the world’s poorest people.
After these events, it can be difficult to talk directly with a candidate as they make their way through the crowds, and even more difficult to get a good picture with a candidate.
But by being patient and respectful, ONE’s Marine, Michael Castaldo, always makes sure to get a great photo. Instead of “banding” a candidate, Michael is now asking them to pose with a ONE shirt (similar to when a sports player gets drafted and poses with their new team jersey). And after thanking Sen. Clinton for proposing bi-partisan legislation with Sen. Smith, called the Education for All Act, Sen. Clinton graciously took a ONE photo.
From the halls of Congress, to the town halls in New Hampshire and across the nation, we have the ability to encourage all of our elected leaders to take immediate action to save millions of lives and help educate people around the world, to make a better and safer world for all.

I met and banded Senator Hillary Clinton at the College Democrats of America (CDA) Convention at the University of South Carolina.
Despite the mad crush of people surrounding me with cameras and pieces of paper to sign she came straight over to me when she saw my ONE Vote ‘08 shirt and said “I certainly don’t want to miss you.” Senator Clinton put on the ONE band and a member of her staff took a photo of us. In her speech, she spoke about her desire to improve America’s reputation in the world.
House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn also spoke at the CDA Convention. The South Carolina Representative talked about the work Congress is doing with the Farm Bill. He also emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability and reducing subsides for big farmers, issues that can have an impact at home and abroad.
