Today, we announced the members of our ONE Vote 2010 Advisory Committee. This bipartisan group of political leaders, strategists and policy experts will advise the ONE Vote 2010 campaign, an effort to get the Senate candidates and voters talking about the issues we care most about: extreme poverty and preventable disease.

We’ve got some amazing people on the team, including Center for American Progress President John Podesta, former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.

Check out our official press release for more details, and be sure to stop by the ONE Vote 2010 site to see what the excitement is all about!

ONE Members with Senator Sherrod Brown

Last week, ONE members woke up at the crack of dawn to attend President Obama’s speech to a large crowd in Parma, Ohio at Cuyahoga Community College. The 5 AM wake-up call was well worth the second row seats right in front of the president!

Pres. Obama had a clear view of our ONE T-shirts, as did the surrounding audience. One audience member from Australia approached us to thank ONE for our efforts to raise awareness around the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease.

Though we didn’t give the president a ONE band, we did have a minute with Democratic Senate candidate and Lt. Governor Lee Fisher and Rep. Dennis Kucinich, (D-Ohio). We also thanked Sen. Sherrod Brown, (D-Ohio), for his advocacy on behalf of the world’s poorest and for supporting efforts to preserve the international affairs budget, which funds ONE’s priorities.

Ohio already has more than 45,000 ONE members — and ONE Vote hopes to sign up more out on the campaign trail! If you’re from Ohio, join us on Facebook and Twitter.

You could feel the excitement in the air as fans anxiously waited in line to see Maroon 5 perform live in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The band stopped off at the historic Murat Theater to promote their upcoming album “Hands All Over,” and was gracious enough to invite ONE to tag along.

The volunteers and I set up a table in the lobby so we could talk to people about ONE Vote 2010’s efforts to provide food, clean water and lifesaving vaccines to the world’s poorest.

We handed out more than 400 ONE T-shirts, bands, buttons and pamphlets, and signed up 180 new supporters to join ONE in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease.

In addition to a great turnout and strong fan support, our successful event was made even sweeter — we got a chance to hang out with the band.

When we spoke with the guys -– including lead singer Adam Levine –- we introduced them to ONE Vote’s issues, thanked them for their support and presented them with ONE bands.

With more than 24,000 ONE members in Indiana, the Hoosier State is leading the bipartisan grassroots effort to help those living on less than $1.25 a day.

As a member of Rep. Joe Sestak’s, (D-Pa.), congressional district, my daughter and I were able to catch up with him the other day at a local job fair in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.

I was happy that I had a chance to talk with Sestak, a Pennsylvania Senate candidate, about the important issues that face our country and world.

In my community, I am a pastor — but I am also a dedicated ONE member. And I know that the most extreme forms of poverty — hunger, starvation and pandemic disease — remain a daily reality for millions of people around the world who we may never meet, yet are still our good friends, neighbors and members of faith communities.

As Sestak entered the job fair, he immediately recognized my ONE T-shirt and came over to greet me on his way to the podium. After his remarks to the crowd, I had the opportunity to thank him and encourage him to continue his leadership on behalf of real people struggling to survive, both locally and globally.

I asked him to help continue the life-saving work being done by the Global Fund to eradicate AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.

As I presented Rep. Sestak with a ONE wristband, I was surprised when he told me that he recently received a ONE T-shirt and was excited about the work we are doing to make poverty history.

As a member of ONE, I would encourage everyone who shares this important mission to take every opportunity to engage all of our candidates and elected leaders.

It is vital that the candidates see ONE members every time they meet with the public. Working together, we can speak out, create change, save lives around the world.

Last week at a formal reception in Indianapolis, I connected with Karl Rove, former senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush.

The reception was hosted at Indiana’s Republican Party Headquarters, in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. Party Chairman Murray Clark, House Minority Leader Brian Bosma and many other political and community leaders were in attendance.

To date, PEPFAR has contributed to providing more than 4 million Africans with HIV/AIDS treatment, up from 50,000 in 2002. A 2009 Stanford University study found the program reduced the number of AIDS-related deaths in some of the poorest parts of Africa by 10 percent.

ONE Vote 2010 will encourage Indiana’s U.S. Senate candidates to continue to support the proven, effective life-saving efforts initiated by Rove and President Bush.

When I introduced myself as a ONE staffer to Rove, he mentioned he had several friends who were strong supporters of ONE, and that he admired ONE’s work to fight extreme poverty. After I thanked Rove for his continuing support and gave him a ONE band, he surprised me with an autographed copy of his book, “Courage and Consequence.” Sounds like a fair trade for a ONE band!

More members…look at all those ONE shirts!

This past Saturday morning, seven ONE volunteers and I participated in the Northwest Ohio AIDS walk. The walk brought together more than 200 people and raised more than $20,000 for local HIV/AIDS programs.

Raja Aossey, a ONE member and art therapy student at Lourdes College, brought along three of her friends from Tanzania. Raja’s friends are visiting Ohio thanks to the U.S. State Department grant program, Arts Exchanges on International Issues, which promotes the exchange of ideas and development of business skills for young female artists.

They were eager to get involved with ONE and excited to hear about ONE’s efforts to help the 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty –- particularly through economic growth and increased trade opportunities.

Another ONE volunteer, Pat Lee, came out to support ONE’s proven, cost-effective solutions to help combat preventable disease and to honor her son, who died a few years ago due to HIV/AIDS.

The event was one of our best yet in Ohio. We signed up 64 new members at the walk, and many participants donned ONE stickers and wristbands all morning.

Last Sunday afternoon, ONE members Brian, Paul, Matt and Tom braved the 90-degree weather to meet up with Republican Senate primary candidate, Kelly Ayotte, and former Boston Red Sox player, Rico Petrocelli, for a New Hampshire Fishercats tailgate in Manchester, New Hampshire.

With the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers in the air, Kelly took time to speak to us about ONE and U.S. efforts to help the world’s 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty.

We thanked Kelly for being a friend to ONE on the campaign trail. ONE members will remember that she spoke about ONE at her town hall meeting with John McCain. Kelly has also been known to wear her ONE band at her campaign events. We encouraged her to continue the U.S.-led fight against preventable disease — if she goes to Washington as New Hampshire’s next senator. American efforts in Africa have helped put more than 4 million people on life-saving HIV/AIDS medicines, and we can’t afford to give up now.

Since launching ONE Vote in July, Kelly has encouraged us to continue our work out on the campaign trail, and she thanked us again for spending time with her at the tailgate. ONE members look forward to seeing more of Kelly out on the trail, along with the other U.S. Senate candidates. Here in New Hampshire, we’re hard at work to make sure our next senator will go to Washington and fight for world’s poorest.
