ONE had a strong presence over the past week at two key Congressional Caucuses events: The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Legislative Days.

The events coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month and attract thousands of attendees annually, including Congressional leaders, businesses and community organizers, to discuss national social and economic concerns.

It was thrilling to walk through the exhibit halls at the Washington Convention Center and to see almost 300 new ONE Campaign members proudly displaying their wristbands as they visited some of the 200-plus exhibits hosted by businesses and other non-profit organizations.

Our volunteers had unparalleled energy that attracted and kept a healthy crowd at our tables throughout the day. During breaks, ONE volunteers – wearing signature ONE shirts – had an opportunity to stop by the seminars, which addressed issues such as climate change, poverty and immigration, and which occasionally featured presidential candidates.

I had an opportunity to speak to several conference attendees who commented that they would like to bring the ONE Campaign to their churches, sororities and community organizations. We even managed to sign up several new students interested in bringing the ONE CAMPUS CHALLENGE to their universities!!
