ONE is hitting the campaign trail to find out where candidates stand on extreme poverty. Stay tuned for more updates like these from our field team and organizers on the road.
On Saturday afternoon, I went with some ONE members to see former Florida Statehouse Speaker and U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio in Delray Beach, to remind him about ONE and encourage him to fight against extreme poverty and disease in Africa if he is elected to the Senate.
The event took place at a pavilion outside the South County Civic Center under the hot South Florida sun, and Rubio was joined by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who recently saw ONE in Chicago and saw ONE everywhere during his own run for President in 2008.
After they delivered their speeches, we had to the chance to briefly speak with each of them. On his way out, Mayor Giuliani saw our ONE shirts and made it a point to speak to us. He was excited to see us and told us, “what you are doing is very important work.”
Over the last few months, ONE members have had multiple engagements with all three candidates for Senate here in Florida. We are two weeks out and ONE members are excited and looking forward to continue bringing the fight against extreme poverty to campaign events across Florida over the final days of this election season.
