ONE is hitting the campaign trail to find out where candidates stand on extreme poverty. Stay tuned for more updates like these from our field team and organizers on the road.
On Friday, Sara Paterni and I traveled to Land O’Lakes, Florida to catch up with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Florida Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio.
This was the second stop on a trip that first took us to Tampa on Thursday to see former Vice President Al Gore and Florida Democratic Senate candidate Kendrick Meek.
This was also our second time in the past week to catch up with Marco Rubio — last Saturday, Rubio told ONE members in Estero, Florida “you guys are doing great work.”
During his speech, Governor Romney said, “No nation has done more to lift people out of poverty than this nation.” And afterward, Sara and I had the chance to speak with the former governor. We talked with him about the importance of expanding trade and economic opportunity to people in the developing world. We thanked him for his past ideas about America’s leadership in the fight against extreme poverty, and told him that we would certainly see him again.
This came at the end of a very busy week for ONE Vote 2010 in Florida. We are thirty days out, and ONE members are excited to bring the fight against extreme poverty to campaign events across the state and beyond election day.
Please join our team to get updates and find out how you can get involved over the final thirty days.
