ONE is hitting the campaign trail to find out where candidates stand on extreme poverty. Stay tuned for more updates like these from our field team and organizers on the road.
This morning, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour was in Manchester, New Hampshire for a political breakfast event at The Yard. When any major political or press figure comes to our state, we make sure that he or she hears about ONE and our efforts to urge brave and bold leadership in the fight against extreme poverty and global disease in Africa.
As soon as I got there, I was lucky enough to run into some staffers and supporters that already knew ONE and were happy to see me in my ONE shirt. I waited until after the event, then made my way up to Gov. Barbour and caught up with him for a few moments. We spoke about ONE and our country’s recent efforts to fight AIDS and poverty in Africa.
We also talked about President George W. Bush’s work to create PEPFAR, and spoke about some of the friends of ONE, like Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Majority Leader Bill Frist, who are also concerned with helping the poorest in the world. Gov. Barbour happily took a picture and grabbed a ONE band, too.
It is election season and that means that here in New Hampshire and across America, our elected leaders are popping up everywhere on the campaign trail — and when they do, they will certainly find ONE members who will urge them to continue America’s life saving work in the poorest places on earth.
