Calling all trivia whizzes and obscure-fact lovers (especially those who happen to care a lot about extreme poverty): FreeRice, an addicting online game run by the U.N.’s World Food Programme, is giving all of today’s donations to the Pakistan crisis.

Many organizations in the nonprofit and NGO community have been shifting gears and focusing on the Pakistan flood, one of the worst humanitarian crises in the country’s history — so it makes sense that FreeRice is following suit.

Playing the game is simple: for every question you get right, FreeRice donates 10 grains of rice through the World Food Programme. You can choose from six different categories: English vocabulary (my personal favorite), chemistry, geography, math, art and foreign languages. Just play it for a minute and watch that rice bowl fill up, and you’ll see why it’s so addicting.

They’ve actually revamped the entire game to make it easier to share on Twitter and Facebook. Check out the new version on their site and start playing like crazy — they’re only doing donations for Pakistan today!

This game is a great idea! I am playing it, and I have recommended it to my girlfriend who is learning English, so she can benefit, as well as benefiting others : )
