Last night Congress voted to keep America’s commitment to Haiti by delivering promised funding that will assist with Haiti’s reconstruction and debt relief. The bill– which thousands of ONE members called on their elected officials to support– cleared when the House passed the measure on a 308 to 114 vote.
Here are some details about what’s included in this bill (HR 4899). It includes $2.8 billion in funding to support critical relief and recovery efforts in Haiti. Specifically, the bill provides $913 million in international security funding and economic assistance for humanitarian relief, reconstruction, law enforcement and peacekeeping initiatives. The bill also includes $465 million for International Disaster Assistance to respond to humanitarian emergencies and funding to cancel existing debts owed by Haiti– which was the focus of ONE’s effort. The bill also supports U.S. Treasury Department programs to strengthen the country’s financial systems and $96.5 million for increased peacekeeping assessments for the U.N. mission in Haiti.
This was a major victory for the people of Haiti. Great job ONE TEAM!

Good news! Is this funding figured into the same bill that gives billions to the war in Afghanistan?

God Bless America, things are really bad for the American people so many of them have lost their homes due to the circumstances with the economy, and some by natural disasters. But inspite there are so many resources for people living in America, I know within my heart that the loving and merciful God that most of serve will smile upon this great nations and restore it back to what has been. By being a blessing to Haiti, God will be a blessing to America. Keep doing what you are doing and all Americans need to keep praying and thanking the Lord and they too will be blessed. For it is written “The least you do unto others you do for me” Every man woman, and child that truly cares for others that are less fortunate than they are will in return be blessed for their good actions and intentions.

Why is it twice as much for security as for assistance?
July 28, 2010 at 4:10 pm
Security for the wealth that will accrue following assistance , training and jibs. Also, providing security provides jobs! All I CSM think about is sewing

I have serious concerns about the corruption in Haitian government. What agencies will be distributing these funds? Who is building the safe homes and providing the meds? Monetary donations are good if there is honesty and transparency in the empowering funds. Handouts are not needed. I would like some detailed informaiton about where the US congress is going to give this money.

This is Great News for Haiti and for Humanity as a Whole. I am so happy to witness the beautiful initiatives, promises, and changes that our Leaders are putting into ACTION.
When there is ONE Love, we can ALL help each other.
When there is ONE Humanity, we will have no need for war.
When we have ONE Vision, we will ALL SEE.
Thank you, ONE, for the work that you are doing everyday to make the Future a place where we ALL feel at Home.

All I can say is that God is good!

One broke and corrupt government throwing money(that they don’t have) at another one. This is how Haiti was such a basket case in the first place and where we are headed. Thank God for Compassion where we can biblically, as individuals, and together, as the church, really make a difference…. Gods way.

My adult children just returned from a 16 day bamboo project in Haiti. Unfortunately the millions that have already poured into the country are not apparent. Bribes to get supplies off the tarmac at the airport, no roads, no tools, no running water….I am totally in support of sending the money – just not optomistic that it will get past the political corruption.

Please read the Letter by Ted Brennan.
No need to repeat it. It is very clear.
Thanks again, everyone who participated.
Do not loose faith.

Ted,
I was a part of a relief team in early Feb. and then last month and I could not tell much of a difference in the conditions for the poor and homeless in the 5 months. The tent cities are heartbreaking and ragged. All of the tents sent down were for designed for a couple of months and after six months they are worn out. When will the help actually get to the people who need it? Is there a way that mission constructions teams (just returned from Nicaragua) can participate in temporary housing or permanent reconstruction. My church does many projects and lost loved ones in the quake.

for Haiti:
One Half An Island or Haiti Moringa
One half an island floating so near
close to the world now they see never hear
maybe we’re hiding maybe we’re cold
forever together looking for gold
walking to dance singing to die
wonder to faith red butterfly
don’t look at me now……….
cuz I’ll turn away………..
fighting my tears……….
I have nothing to say………..
But I love,…. what you’ve done…. flowers discreet
quakes may be gone………. but never the heat
beaches and deserts shedding the pain
look what we paid for ten minute rain
One half an island floating away
maybe tomorrow never today
wading through bodies tearing the sand
blood oven drying tiles the land
hills that go hunting trying to swim
hammer and nails writing a hymn
shock to the teeth grimace for pain
memories lost heaviness wane
tapping on lead leftover burn
search around soul sleeping in turn
don’t look at us now…….
cuz you’ll turn away……..
more than here dying…….
still learning to pray…..
But I love, what you’ve done….. stones in the air
big letter written……. whenever not care
traps find the hunger cry in the night
steal in the city darker than white
One half an island floating no more
hung up on star dust jupiter’s shore
no other lovers lost in the art
water green flowing looks out the heart
beautiful people where will you go
surfing on concrete heaven to show
But I love, what you’ve done…….. seven days made
sinking on summer…… loneliness shade
angels now weeping turn on the mirror
calling to orphans peace is now here
don’t think of us now……..
cuz you’ll never see……
haiti moringa……
invisible tree…….
