Happy Birthday, Nelson Mandela!
Today is Nelson Mandela’s 92nd birthday. We wanted to send him a special gift this year, so we recently asked ONE members to submit their picture and help us build a birthday card just for him.
And what a response we got! Thanks to all of you, this week we were able to personally deliver a card to Mr. Mandela’s staff in South Africa that was signed by over 27,000 ONE members from all across the world.

Our oldest son quoted Nelson Mandela in his valedictorian graduation speech. He also urged the thousands present at the ceremony to remember that they are all “pieces of a massive global jigsaw puzzle” and that our world is in dire need of their gifts.
Two weeks later, the Universe winked at our son when we received ONE’s request for photos to add to this birthday collage for Nelson Mandela!

I remember standing in my grandmothers small living room in Ireland when you were released in 1990. We were all singing a song we heard your country men and women sing on the black and white TV. “Mandela will be free. Free Nelson Mandela.” Thank you for your grace. I love this card but I am sure the birthday present Mandela really wants from the US is for Obama and the US government to keep funding Aids treatment in poor countries. Cuba has independence? Is Nelson Mandela Insane>??? He Loves the communist regime and human rights violations of Castos Cuba??!!! As A Cuban who fled the tyranny of Castro i am deeply offended by these statements by Mandela.

I was really excited about doing this and thought the inspiration absolutely fantastic, but in looking at the birthday card, I see that you used the same photos over and over again. That is really disappointing. I encouraged many to do this. Not sure it is good to promise something and then not even attempt to deliver.

Some of you have noticed a few repeat photos in the birthday card. Unfortunately, there was a glitch in the system we used to upload all the photos into the collage, and because we had very little time to get the card to our ONE staffer who personally delivered the card to Mr. Mandela in South Africa, we were unable to go through and find all of them. We thank the over 27,000 ONE members who signed the card and the 14,000 who also submitted photos!
