Meeting the candidates in New Hampshire

On Saturday, I was able to catch Senate candidate, Rep. Paul Hodes at the Stoddard, NH Democrat Town Meeting. I spoke with him briefly about ONE and efforts to save lives in the poorest places on Earth. Rep. Hodes knows ONE well and has seen ONE members in his office and on the campaign trail too. I’m sure he’ll be seeing a lot more of ONE as we gear up for ONE Vote 2010.

Early on Sunday morning I chatted with another Senate candidate, Kelly Ayotte. (You may remember that ONE was at her town hall meeting with Senator McCain a few months ago.) We want to make sure that both political parties are aware of the challenges of global disease and extreme poverty and are ready to take action to help save millions of lives. We are not out to support a politician or a party, but to ensure that life saving policy is campaign promise!

Later in the day, I traveled to Wolfeboro, NH, the site of our biggest 4th of July parade where I caught up with Governor Mitt Romney (pictured). Gov. Romney has been on the ONE Blog many, many times in the past, and, as a candidate for President, he addressed some of the major issues facing the developing world like education, malaria, and AIDS. I was able to speak with him briefly about the closing lines in his speeches right before the 2008 New Hampshire Primary where he spoke of regional coordinators around the world that would help with trade and health for the developing world. I thanked Gov. Romney and his family for always remembering the world’s poorest people and ONE during the Primary.

Saving lives in the poorest nations on Earth is not only the right thing to do, but in a sometimes dangerous world it is also a very wise thing to do. We are the greatest nation in the world and we prove it when we act to defend the poorest and most vulnerable people.

This ONE campaign is a political organization that recently had an event at the NHIOP at St. A’s. They are NOT a charity as they would like you to believe.

They are set up to support Obama’s Global Poverty Act, which is geared towards the UN’s MDG, or Millennium Development Goals.

Any candidates in NH who support this group should be rejected.

    We’re keeping track…
