US urged to set 2020 target to save climate deal

Moscow "will insist that the ability of Russia's forests to absorb carbon dioxide be taken into account," Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said,

If forests are going to be free from deforestation and guaranteed by the countries, I believe they should be taken into account. This will promote more countries to protect their forests.

African nations called for tougher emissions curbs from the developed world, and Gambia, Ethiopia and Algeria spoke in favor of walking out of the U.N. talks, said Antonio Hill of Oxfam.

I don’t believe it is called for, for any country to walk out of climate negotiation. Each country should represent the importance of reaching an agreement, even if it is not exactly the one hoped for. Working together is the only way the climate change can happen.

Democrats in the U.S. Senate said they would try to start pushing legislation through a key committee on Tuesday, ignoring a planned boycott by minority Republicans. That legislation calls for a 20 percent reduction in U.S. carbon dioxide emissions by industry, from 2005 levels.

Even if the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee signs off on the bill in coming weeks, there is no evidence any measure will be approved by the full Senate this year.

President Obama is redefining America, so we can only hope that he can stress to the U.S. Senate that Climate Change has already affected the whole world, not their “Republican” or “Democrat” agenda. America as a whole needs to show the world that legislation can be passed, in special meetings if necessary, for the good of all mankind. That is why U.S.A. is looked upon as one of the world leaders.
