Amy Quinn and I brought some friends along to a screening of the documentary One Peace at a Time, directed by Turk Pipkin. The film was an inspiring Nobility Project feature, filmed in 20 countries on 5 continents. It explores Turk Pipkin’s two-year search for a better world: Clean water, nutrition, education, healthcare and a sustainable, peaceful environment as basic rights that every child on earth is entitled to.

What is the ONE thing that we as individuals can do in our own lives to help provide these basic rights? The film suggest that if each person picked just ONE thing that they cared about and then did something about it, the solutions would be within our grasp.

The film itself was superb! Far too often, sensationalism dominates documentaries and the audience is left feeling horrible about inaction. One Peace at a Time left us with a feeling of hope, suggested numerous organizations to begin working with, and proposed concrete solutions to the world’s biggest problems. During the film the audience was silent, not only out of respect for the filmmaker, but because we were all being impacted by the images. Tears welled up in my eyes more than once. After the movie, the question and answer session included a special thank you to ONE and Bono. As I went to hand Turk Pipkin a ONE band before he left, he showed me the ONE he was already wear on his wrist.
