In just 24 hours, ONE members made more than 600 phone calls to the U.S. Senate to demand better, more effective foreign aid for the world’s poorest people. Together with our partner organizations, we’re at the forefront of a bipartisan movement to “upgrade aid” by bringing better accountability, transparency, coordination and management to U.S. global development assistance through the Kerry-Lugar Foreign Assistance Revitalization and Accountability Act (S.1524).
Why should we care about the nuts-and-bolts of foreign aid? In the current economic climate, it’s more important than ever to stretch our precious development dollars as far as they can possibly go. And if you care about solutions to water and sanitation deficiency, preventable diseases, and hunger and malnourishment, you must pay attention to the way those solutions are implemented.
We fight hard for every dollar of foreign aid we can secure on behalf of the 1.4 billion people who are living on less than $1.25 a day. So we have a moral obligation to make sure that not a single penny of that funding is wasted.
But we need your help. The Kerry-Lugar bill will have its day in committee next Tuesday, and we need to show our senators we care about foreign aid reform in order for the bill to move forward.
It only takes a minute to make the call, introduce yourself, and mention the bill number. Please call your senators now.

I will be making this call to my Senators’ DC offices on Monday – right before the vote in committee next week. This is ONE of the MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES to come up in Congress that can greatly benefit the world’s poorest people and we need to make sure NOT to let this opportunity for REAL CHANGE that will benefit the world’s poor pass us by.
Take good care, Emily, and everyONE in the DC office.
