Although I’m an active student in the ONE Campus Challenge for Seton Hall University during the school year, this summer I have had the pleasure of interning at Mercy Corps’ Action Center to End World Hunger in New York City. Since there’s no summer vacation from the fight against global poverty, I am inviting all ONE members in the NYC area to attend an Action Center speaker panel on microfinance on August 5. We’ve put together an amazing panel of speakers, including Camilla Nestor of the Grameen Foundation, and Bill Abrams of Trickle Up. The panel will be moderated by Caitlin Weaver, the Deputy Director of the Financial Access Initiative.
In addition to addressing the basics about microfinance, panelists will discuss how their organizations are working to address concerns that have been raised with the microfinance model, such as whether microfinance can really lift people out of poverty. Bring your questions about economic development and ask the experts!
What: Creating Sustainable Microfinance: A Panel Discussion
Who: Mercy Corps and friends
When: Wednesday, August 5, 7:00 PM
Where: Mercy Corps’ Action Center to End World Hunger, 6 River Terrace, Battery Park City, New York
For more information or to RSVP, please email events@actioncenter.org. Hope to see you there!

Sounds like a great event! Please let us know what is talked about and how we all are able to help poor people (both in Africa and locally in the US of A) get small business and personal loans. Thanks!
Microfinance is something that RESULTS, which I am a proud member of, has been advocating for for a long time, including holding a summit in the 90′s which set a goal of 1,000,000 clients in ten years, and the world (including in Africa) passed that amount around 2007. There are many ways that we can all participate in such success. Cheers and Blessings.
