I recently read an email a friend sent me from a man named Paul Zeitz who was very critical of ONE and Bono about their lack of effort to hold this president accountable to his promises. Can someone please share with me ONE's response, he made some very good points. I voted for him on the believe the President will honor his commitment but I worry that all his friends are going soft on him. thank you.

Is the Aids problem addressed through other money from the U.S. so that Obama may have thought it sufficiently covered?

I personally am not a fan of movements and organizations giving report cards unless they are willing to look within themselves. Too often I've seen big orgs. give report cards but the org. itself is not up to task. As someone who has crossed paths with The One campaign, and seen their AIDS efforts being a B at best (in terms of how much they actually educate the public relative to the publicity and power they hold, this B is generous), I would encourage a self-evaluation as well.

It would be great if report cards like this would catch on. It's a complex world we live in, and even dedicated charity minded people can have a tough time keeping up.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to find out about an organization that accomplishes 2 amazing things at once. 1) They structure incoming one-time payments so that as the group grows, people who contributed get paid back far more than they put in. (Growth is fast right now, and looks to pick up much more speed when the public gets more notice of it). 2) 10% of all funds go to the charity of one's choice. This is a win-win and the model so unique that the compensation plan is patented. http://tinyurl.com/wlweebly

You can get a free DVD and booklet about it at the web site. I have known about it for 36 yrs. since today. The feeling I got while listening got me interested. Eversound.com is good music made by people also interested.

Thanks Virginia for posting this "report card" - it gives those of us ONE members who are actively engaging our Congressional representatives on the FY2010 budget some more info to proceed with.

This is the political process in the USA - if you don't like a certain portion of what your government is doing, then you muster your fellow citizens and let your elected representatives know how you feel.

And ONE members have been VERY SUCCESSFUL in recent years in their lobbying efforts in Congress in getting more money put into programs that fight AIDS & extreme poverty.

I REMAIN OPTIMISTIC THAT WE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS CURRENT LOBBYING EFFORT TO RESTORE THESE BUDGET CUTS!

What we DON'T need is dissension, negativity & bickering amongst ourselves - that only lessens our effectivenessfor the world's poorest people.

And I don't think none of us want to see that.

Have a Great Weekend & Happy Mother's Day to All My Fellow Mothers!

ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE - debbie :)
