Critical Poverty Vote In The Senate At 4:10 EST Today

In just a few minutes, senators will be voting on the Kerry-Lugar Amendment to restore $4 billion in devastating cuts to the foreign affairs budget – cuts that would severely restrict our ability to fight poverty and disease around the world.

    Besides the fact that protection from poverty is a human right and that traditionally every developed country has expressed a self enforced obligation to promote human rights around the globe, this move threatens the most unstable countries. A latin proverb declares : “Poverty is a parent of revolution.” If you are still concerned with eliminating terrorism across the globe I would advised providing the necessary aid to put these countries on the track to prosperity instead of despairation.

    If you need some practical examples of extreme poverty leading to political and social unrest I suggest you look into how many ships have been highjacked by Somali Pirates off the eastern coast of Africa.

    Another fine example of the reprocussion of a “cut and run” approach is the Taliban controlled Afghanistan that lead to the development of the 911 Bombings. had the region been properly stabilized after the Soviets left the grip of the taliban could have atleast been better monitored if not completely relieved.
