Land grabs are taking place in poor countries all over the world where governments are desperate for income. Farmers in Sudan are desperate and land deals are going to potentially create huge problems for people here.

Wall Street Journal: Mobile Banking Receives Boost Article
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a mobile-phone-industry trade group are experimenting with programs that let consumers in Asia, Africa and Latin America access financial services through their cellphones, part of a broader effort to turn mobile phones into a financial tool in developing countries.

Reuters: UK wants G20 “rescue plan” for poorer nations
Britain hopes the G-20 conference will produce a “rescue plan” for developing countries struggling to get financing, Foreign Office Minister Mark Malloch-Brown said on Tuesday. The aim would be to meet these countries’ basic social needs and secure investment in public infrastructure and other job-creating mechanisms, he said.

BBC News: ‘Zimbabwe needs emergency aid’
In a report on Zimbabwe, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) says the country’s whole health system has collapsed. Zimbabwe is experiencing the worst cholera outbreak in its history.

    Hey Chandler, thanks for posting these articles. The first one in The Guardian really concerns me. These land grabs in poorer nations by richer nations could really be disastrous as far as food production for those in the poorer countries.

    I think that this should be an issue that ONE highlights more.
