Letter from Specter
Greetings from Pennsylvania! Recently on this blog I was able to share with everyone some of the success PA ONE members had with contacting Senator Robert Casey, asking him to ask ONE-related questions during Secretary of State Clinton’s confirmation process. Today, I received a letter from Pennsylvania’s other Senator Arlen Specter! Please take a look at the letter! Senator Specter is a senior member of the Appropriations Subcommittees on Foreign Operations and Defense. He mentions support of the FY08 Foreign Operations Bill and the inclusion of 1.56 billion dollars in funding the Millennium Challenge Account.
Senator Specter also mentions that the bill included “an important contribution of $550 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.” He goes on to say that “a U.S. emphasis on international diplomacy and development is critical to achieving global security.” PA ONE members have participated in Senator Specter’s town hall meetings and have placed numerous calls to his offices on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable. This letter signifies that our efforts are not falling on “deaf ears”.
