I joined the Power 100 students from all over the state of Ohio for a meeting with Senator Sherrod Brown’s staff yesterday. The students asked Legislative Correspondent Tanya Somanader to relay their thanks to the Senator for his support of legislation designed to fight extreme poverty and disease by promoting child and maternal health and increasing funding for antiretroviral treatment, malaria medication and bed nets.
The senator has also been a leader in the fight against tuberculosis. Tanya informed us that Senator Brown is exploring new opportunities to support and promote microfinancing as well. We had a great discussion with Tanya who enthusiastically encouraged the students to keep up their advocacy work.
The Ohio delegation left feeling pumped to take what they had learned from the Summit back to their college communities and ONE campus groups! They plan to stay in touch with each other and collaborate at ONE events in the future. Can’t wait to see Ohio universities continue to excel in the ONE Campus Challenge this year!
