Taking it to the next level was the underlying theme during the student Meet Up in San Jose. After several presentations, a pot luck dinner, their own community newsletter, and weekly tabling events (totally over 400 signatures), Ms. Parker’s Senior English class was very much ready to double their efforts with ONE last Thursday.
They divided into committees and organized a letter writing campaign to their local papers and government officials in hopes to get local leaders involved in the fight against extreme poverty and disease. They’ve planned classroom one-on-one presentations and discussions to solicit help from their fellow students and they are seeking new ways to table at higher traffic areas in the community.
Lightheartedly, they’ve adopted a project “mascot” (mannequin to be exact), that wears a ONE shirt and stays in their school serving as a daily reminder to find new ways to raise awareness for those living less than $2 a day. In case you were wondering, they’ve named their mannequin JUAN.
And check back with us to see what’s next for Club T.W.O & Juan… I hear a carnival and perhaps a ONE city proclamation … ?
