Yesterday in downtown Atlanta, over 30 ONE members rallied together at City Hall to receive and celebrate a proclamation declaring Atlanta a City of ONE. After a lively press conference at noon, we all headed to the Council Chamber for the official presentation ceremony. We were also joined by representatives from our partner organizations CARE, Bread for the World and RESULTS, as well as Kennesaw State’s ONE Campus Leader, Audrey Ruark, and Amanda Meng from the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta.

ONE members Nancy Bauer and Kristi Wooten addressed the City Council and received the plaque, officially making Atlanta a City of ONE – a great example of how the work of a few strong-willed and motivated individuals can make a HUGE impact in raising awareness for the world’s poorest people.

Way to go ONE Atlanta! More to come including statements from local and federal Atlanta political leaders and video!

Good to have Atlanta on board as a “City of ONE” ! I remember the excitement those of us who worked on this effort to make Austin TX a City of ONE back in Oct. 2006 felt so I can imagine the excitement in Atlanta.

It would be really great if ONE could make available a PDF of all the cities around the USA which have become a “City of ONE” and when those cities joined our efforts. I think that info would help us around the country to gather even more support for ONE.

ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE – debbie :)

nancy and kristi – this is awesome!. i know it was a lot of hard work for you two and many others. getting time and our agenda into the forefront of the civic and legislative leaders is not always an easy thing to do. hopefully ONE Atlanta will grow and continue to be as awesome as ever.

I’m glad Chris made it down for the event as well. it’s always good when the office makes it out into the field. and great to see the partners coming together for this event as well.

keep up the great work girls. we’re all so very proud of you and the ONE gang in Atlanta.

    stay close,

    sammi =)

That’s a nice picture of a bunch of people that are helping to cut the throat of The United States of America.

There’s nothing wrong with helping others. But it’s an entirely different thing to do it with funding that you don’t have.

    Food for thought:

What is the total number of times that The United States of America has come to the aid of other countries monetarily?

What is the number of times that other countries have come to our aid? List the number of times for the larget five countries.

Why should The United States of America give more than any other particular country?

C’mon now Chris, there isn’t anything that isn’t civil about my post. When I say “…cutting the throat of….”, it’s metaphorical. I’m surprised that you didn’t see that. Post up if you would like to discuss that further. I’ll be happy to have a conversation regarding my postings and how they are written should you decide to partake of said in on an open platform.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for responding. I understood your description to be metaphorical but the violent imagery is a bit graphic and out of bounds. I tried to get in touch with you to address these concerns, but the email address you’ve provided appears to be invalid.

Per our “comments on commenting” it is required that all commenters provide a valid email address. This ensures proper accountability and protects the ONE blog from spam, etc. Please submit a valid email address here (http://www.one.org/contact/blog.html) so that we can discuss this further—strict confidentiality is guaranteed.

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for getting back.

On the issue of use of violent imagery: What is violent is given over to one’s being by perception. I disagree with the classification of the aforementioned as “violent”, though it’s graphical use was intended. I will, however, yield it’s use. What can be stated shortly can also be stated in length. Unfortunately for some, the meaning will be lost. As for civility, it too is largely based on perception and functions best when reciprocity is granted, though discussion is largely moot at this point in time as “civility” isn’t really the issue so much as the issue of me offending someone’s moral or ethical standards, which I’m sure, gave way to your intervention. I had some other things to point out about your post concerning comments on commenting, but I’ll refrain so as too “keep it on topic”. This isn’t the place nor the time for them.

On the issue of contact information: The information provided was at one time legitimate. It appears that you are correct and that address is now invalid. This has been corrected. Feel free to drop something in my inbox should you need to check that. As far as registering as a “blogger” here, I must pass at this time pursuant to the avalability of non-registered posting. Accountability is also a non-issue, also due to the same. Further information or discussion may be obtained by contacting me via the newly provided email address so as to not make this a wall-o’-text.

    Best,

    Steve B.
