Yesterday, U2 performed in front of hundreds of thousands of people at “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration” concert at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. ONE co-founder Bono took a few moments backstage to record this message to ONE members. Check it out!

Bono, you are an inspiration to those of us who serve people in Africa. Our efforts in bringing neurosurgery to Uganda have been benefited by the wide light you shine on that continent. Keep up the work, we will follow. Blessings, Michael Haglund

Bono,
We LOVE you guys!!! We watched you and I was thrilled when you included not only Israel in your speeh, but Palestine as well. All people need a place to live and feel free to be what ever they want to be. A place to eat, love, learn, work. Not a place to starve and die from ignorance.
Thank God the rest of my American family decided enough was enough. Why, why was George Bush never impeached, that’s what I am still screaming!!!
I pray we run not walk to the aide of Darfur.
With Love and Hope .

I watched U2′s performance on HBO last night and loved it. As an Irish-American I also loved the “shout out” to Joe Biden. Well done.

This is why you have been my favorite band for 25+ years… you’re not just a band – you’re humanity set to music. Many thanks and much love for the voice you’ve leant to all of us!

Bono represents caring, and I join many others in celebrating him as well as the changes to come in America. But when he spoke to Brian Williams, he basically said that the rest of the world had ‘written America off’, that Americans only thought of America. I wish he had clarified that he meant the American government and those who believed it was acting appropriately. Many of us were disgusted and dismayed from the start at the power-hungry, isolationist attitude in our government. I hope Bono understands that many, maybe even a majority, of Americans feel that we are part of the human race and responsible for it worldwide, not just citizens of one country with no feeling of being a part of all humanity outside our borders.

It is not surprising to me that U2 was asked to be part of the Inaugural celebration! A President commited to change could ask for no better representation of such words as U2. As a member of the One Campaign it is amazing to see such a STAR take pride in his beliefs and spread them around the world one person at a time. I was touched by U2′s words at the Glendale Arena in 2005 as I am touched everytime I hear him speak!! Great work Bono!!

Bono,
You represent what all human’s should strive to be. Kudos to you for your tireless efforts to make this world a better place for everyone, not just those that can afford it!!!!!! I only hope in this life I can make a positive impact on those people I have the privilege to cross paths with, as you have done for all of us.
Stay Strong & Fight Hard!!!!!!!

Although I voted for the “other guy” I am hoping that America will continue on its road to ending world poverty and HIV/AIDS that Bush started us on. Through all his many faults, Pres. Bush did vastly increase spending on poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa. We as Americans in general have no idea how even those in our own hemisphere live and ONE is in the forefront of enlightening the people and the govt about these issues. Bono and the rest of U2 are a great inspiration on how to live out 1 John 3:18 in my everyday life. God bless you all and pray for the President.
January 19, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Bono and U2′s contributions to the world and humanity are endless!!!

Nice! Why is he always wearing sunglasses? *sigh* Rock stars….
January 19, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Great job Bono… I love all you do to help eradicate poverty in this world. We are so capable of helping due to our good fortune here and nothing seems to make any more sense than to help those in need.
I love the awareness you have brought to Africa and teaching people about how life is over there through ONE, (RED), and so many other avenues.
You are an inspiration and I cant wait for the day I get to meet you face to face and give you a great big hug!
January 19, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Bono,
Thanks for all you have done, and all the work we have yet to do. This is sincerely one of the best causes of our time. I am excited about the new Changes that are to come, and not only in the United States but across the world. We cant thank you enough for what you have done, and I personally love being a part of the ONE organization.
January 19, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Hey. I think there is so much yet to do, and we really need to keep President Obama accountable for the things he made in the statement. Thanks Bono for co-finding this organization that gives us the voice to show our support to the causes we truly believe in our heart.
Sincerely, Scientist who is working to cure diseases.

I’ve loved U2 from the days they first set foot in Boston and for years since. Their music is amazing, always evolving and enduring. But what really inspires me is their dedication to the world we live in … Live Aid, Sun City South Africa in the fight to end Apartheid… and the endless fight to end suffering and starvation in Africa. They are always there educating and shining the light where needed. Bono and U2 are true heroes sharing the light with us all. I hope we all can be inspired and follow in their footsteps to create a better world for all of humanity
January 19, 2009 at 4:12 pm
U2 have always been an inspiration to me. Starting way back when I saw Bono climbing the wall at the US Festival with the white flag during Sunday Bloody Sunday. That act made me think about how far this man will go to get the attention needed. I knew then I was a witness to one of the greatest bands ever. God Bless us, our world & our new President! PEACE!
January 19, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Thank you for caring about all of us. Good things are happening thanks to your efforts and we will all benefit from them.
Peace be with you always.
January 19, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Dear Bono and U2,
Thanks for bridging the gap between the hearts and minds of generations with your music. Those who love the transformation that is taking shape in the world tomorrow appreciate all you do. You are a brilliant ambassador for the world in all you do help shape change!

I was glued to the TV yesterday as Bono and U2 performed…I was so moved by my favorite band singing at the Lincoln Memorial on the eve of an inauguration that I know will bring the needed changes to America and Africa. There is no excuse for poverty on this earth. You are especially in my thoughts today as we visited the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and reminisced about being part of the crowd on the lawn several years back when you launched the ONE campaign. Thank you for using your celebrity for the common good. We are ONE!
January 19, 2009 at 4:18 pm
So proud of you Bono!!! What a bloodly hero!!!
January 19, 2009 at 4:19 pm
The beauty of Bono unlike other stars he is not a phony. He re-enforces what we all know, people united can make a difference.
January 19, 2009 at 4:19 pm

Thank you for mentioning Palestinians in your performance. As Irish you know about brutal occupation. Please continue to bring the suffering of Palestinian brothers and sisters to the public’s awareness and concern

Awesome! Thanks for making this amazing organization available to us that are passionate about taking a stand and creating change.
January 19, 2009 at 4:22 pm
True to the cause, all it takes is “ONE” Bono spark to light up, the awakening collective conscious of us all! And fittingly so, as we are all made from the same cosmic fabric of “ONE”
Thanks BONO, right back at ya,love you too!
January 19, 2009 at 4:22 pm
I have been a U2 fan since I saw Under a Blood Red Sky concert more than 20 years ago, and I must say that the way U2 approaches to the people opening our eyes through music and honesty has been a milestone for my personal beliefs regarding Human Rights, Peace and equality among people. That is indeed one of the best ways to “Capture” person’s minds; doing it through art, touching sensitive fibers, and making us jumping into an ideological structure regardless race, religion or social class. Well done lads!
January 19, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Bono,
Yes we are ready for love and compassion exactly what you represent.
We are greatful to you and all your efforts throughout the world.
We are truly honored as well to have you stand before us on the Lincoln Memorial. So many walked away from America due to the last president and mess he created. We again have hope and faith in our next president.
Thank you
Theresa

Bono,
You have inspired me for many many years and I love what you stand for and whatever you ask of your fans (me) big time, I will do willingly and with great honor. I have traveled twice to Africa and I totally get it. My heart was filled when I went as it is filled with the hope of this new President and my heart is filled when I listen to you and attend your concerts and give back to others through your (RED), ONE, and volunteering. I am feeling so much pride in the election of Obama and overwhelmed with emotion and hope and you guys being there and performing showed that all is right with the future and what an exciting time we will be witnessing and how much change I truly believe will happen! I hope to meet you again soon! We met at your POP tour and you are as gracious in person as I knew you would be! Looking forward to your new CD and tour!
January 19, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Yay! My the LORD continue to bless you richly for using your blessings for something greater than yourself.
January 19, 2009 at 4:25 pm
I had the pleasure of attending this concert and I’d just like to thank U2 for their performance. It was an incredible experience and one that I’ll remember for my whole lifetime.
January 19, 2009 at 4:25 pm
I believe tomorrow would be a great day to wear my ONE t-shirt.
Thank You Bono for leading the way.
Let us all “Be of Service” starting tomorrow both abroad and locally.

January 19, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Bono,
Thank you for your continuous inspiration that promotes love, peace and positive change.
January 19, 2009 at 4:27 pm
LOVE YOU BONO!!!! As a member of ONE, I am so thrilled to be a part of raising awareness of global poverty/hunger/HIV and urging our countries leaders to pledge more of our tax dollars to this cause. We all pay taxes and I can’t think of a better use of our tax dollars (don’t even get me started about using our tax dollars for corporate bail-outs!!) Celebrities, esp. those of Bono’s caliber, do so much to bring awareness to both the people and the leaders. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! And to all of our leaders – please increase funding for these causes – in times of trouble, we need to dig even deeper.
January 19, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Bono,
It’s night time. It’s dark. Put the sunglasses away.
January 19, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Dear Bono.
You have traced the path to a new vision of life, day by day, even when you though some were not listening. You took those voices one by one, and added them up to make the words stronger. You sometimes were even challenged in your beliefs, yet you never stopped your journey in your values, giving it a meaning to fight for the right things, fight for justice and life itself. For decades, the fight for justice sometimes seemed useless to some men, but a few never stopped and never lost hope. And the seed of what you planted has grown to be one amazing strong tree.
Some men gave there life for these beliefs and values of justice. And today, your work, and the work and voices of millions of people coming together is heard around the world and listened to.
Now, a new beautiful and amazing journey begins, with the proof that all of this was worth it, the nomination of President Barak Obama. This new President is part the answer and the proof that the fight for what is right is worth fighting for, and that the fight for the truth and good shall always win in the long-term even in times when we think there is no hope.
Thank you for being part of history and molding it to a better world for me, for my children and for the rest of the world
With all my respect
Karl

Bono’s moral courage in voicing “A Palestinian Dream” was the highlight of the concert for me. What an amazing experience to be a part of the crowd yesterday, and I’m very hopeful that America will truly open it’s ears to the voices of the rest of the world

January 19, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Have always loved your band and your thoughts. Your inspiring lives have made profound impacts on so many…………………..For twenty-five plus years I have been driving whatever car I owned, and when your band comes on the radio or from my cd, I still play it cranked up and feel goose bumps every time!
I am sure that even though it was bitter cold yesterday, you still kept everyone’s heart warmed!
January 19, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Being a part of One.org and being heard over these last several years has really changed my life and the lives of those around me. The vision of creating One.org by Bono and so many committed people to helping those that need help the most is so inspiring. To see U2 play at the inagural event brings tears to my eyes – it means so much on so many levels. I am grateful to be a part of One.org and hopeful that the message will continue to spread globally. President Obama and his staff have a unique opportunity to show the world that America can balance being focused on the issues at home while also remembering we are ONE with the world. Here’s to HOPE and ONE.org! Thanks, Bono!
January 19, 2009 at 4:37 pm
You are truly a gift to the world, Bono.
January 19, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Bono,
Thank you for having the courage to mention that the Palestinians deserve freedom and peace too. Trying to have a reasonable, truthful discussion about how the Palestinian people are suffering is a difficult task, especailly in America. Thank you for all that you have done in Africa and around the world. People are listening. Don’t give up!
January 19, 2009 at 4:38 pm
U2: As a Citizen of the World, I extend my heart felt thanks to your steadfast and tireless commitment to making the world a better place through your efforts with the ONE.org, the (RED) Campaign, and loads of others. As a band you have entertained for decades… and as individuals you have inspi(RED) us. Cheers from Boston, Carol Tobian
January 19, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Thank you to the four lads from the North side of Dublin who delivered the message of “We Are One” yesterday and have been delivering it for quite some time now. I think America is finally starting to listen. I have more hope now than I have had in years… Yes We Can!!
January 19, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Bono, I have a lot of respect for you and your campaign to end poverty. I myself sponsor an african child and wish I could do more. Only thru the education of ourselves and others can great strides be made in eliminating starvation and disease. I am becoming a teacher so that I can educate here and abroad as well. Thanks for taking on the leadership in your current role.

Bono, very soon you’ll have in your living room, Nobel Peace Prize b/c you really deserve to be awarded…
January 19, 2009 at 4:41 pm
I sure wouldn’t want to be Obama — people are expecting him to move heaven and earth and I fear he won’t be able to please eveyrone. It is quite nice to see the celebration and the people coming together for the Inauguration, but what a shame that we don’t celebrate these historic inaugurations EVERY four years, not just the ones when Hollywood is happy.
January 19, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Wouldn’t it be nice if Pres. Obama asked Bono to be one of his advisers….in a perfect world.
Thanks Bono for all you do, a great humanitarian and you even ROCK too! Woohoo! lol
January 19, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Thank you Bono, you are an inspiration, now with President Obama, the world’s tomorrows will be better.
January 19, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Bono, you make our world a better place for everyone! We love you and your band!
January 19, 2009 at 4:42 pm
I sure wish I could have been there–to see you all perform yesterday and to see President Obama take office tomorrow. I know things won’t be perfect–ever—-but I have so much hope that it will get better. Much better. In this economy it is good that the three things we need the most, time, hope and determination are all free.
Thanks for all you have done, Bono, and President Obama, blessings, love and admiration to you and your family. May God bless you and keep you.
January 19, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Bono’s leadership has been inspirational to so many. He really walks the walk. How fitting he become part of our national anthem at a time of great hope and transition. Rock on Bono and Barak! We are no longer on the cusp of change but stepping forward together in history. We are one! Let’s make a difference – and some more great music.
Peace and love…
January 19, 2009 at 4:42 pm
bono is so cool i started listening to U2 with “the unforgettable fire,” I bought the cassette just because of the color of the case. The music was so dynamic and bono’s voice carried the music. plus his vision to help africa is exhilirating. I mean U2 got their foot in the door at Live aid in 1984 after that they were superstars. It for me is like if you can’t be him, be like him. I save pop can’s (50-60 lbs) a month and the money I send to the ONE campaign plus I have started a humanitarian project in my neighborhood Kudos to anyone that is a believer. because U2 is almost a mainstream christian rock band Just do what you can to help the lesser man it will help you grow.
January 19, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Bono you’re my hero. Let’s pray the next 4 years makes a real differnce.
January 19, 2009 at 4:45 pm

Bono you are awesome, such an inspiration to people around the with all the work you do for social justice, aids, poverty, you have inspired me and my children with your music and your causes, Americans could learn a lot from your example. John Lennon, Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Bono…You are among the best..

Thank you Bono for all you have done for ONE, DATA and trying to help get us closer to “The End of Poverty” (Jeffrey Sachs, http://www.earth.columbia.edu/pages/endofpoverty/index). And thank you U2 for supporting Bono’s efforts!
January 19, 2009 at 4:49 pm
U2-Bono
You are special and selfless human being. I am happy when ever I see you performing or just at the mentioning of you name. You yourself have made history by intervening in the lives of the African people. Your voice speaks love loud and clear. And you deserve every opportunity available to demonstrate your passion and humanitarian persona. May God continue to give you strength, protection and more wisdom and finances to do what you do best. U2. Thank you and your band, all the best. More power to you. I love you guys.
January 19, 2009 at 4:49 pm
The concert yesterday was the BEST!! A very emotional day for me and so many others. Thank you for your “In the Name of Love”. That’s what the world has always needed. The hope and connections since Obama was elected has opened up our world energy to so many wonderful possibilities. I look forward to the days ahead to see this all unfold. YES, WE CAN!!
January 19, 2009 at 4:50 pm
Awesome Bono! You guys have always inspired me. I disagree with Karl when he states, “Now, a new beautiful and amazing journey begins, with the proof that all of this was worth it, the nomination of President Barak Obama. This new President is part the answer and the proof that the fight for what is right is worth fighting for, and that the fight for the truth and good shall always win.” Too many are putting too much faith in Obama. Besides, ONE is supposed to be about EVERYONE joined together not just some people’s FEELINGS that Obama MIGHT change everything for the better. Let’s continue to keep ONE from being partisan. AMEN!
January 19, 2009 at 4:50 pm
Of all the musicians out there, you’re the real-deal, Bono, and you always have been. I have always loved your passion for the needy around the world and I find your compassion and diligence inspiring. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for your fellow human beings in need!!!!!
Thank the powers that be for BONO!
Thank the powers that be for OBAMA!

My thanks to you and the band, Your using the best platform possible not only to help individuals but entire countries. From debt relief to feeding the poorest amoung us. May the Spirit continue to lead you, May God Bless you and yours.
January 19, 2009 at 4:51 pm
You guys ROCK!!!! It was the gig of the year and I was so please that you were invited to perform. Keep giving us great music and we will keep fighting for those with HIV/AIDS and more.
January 19, 2009 at 4:51 pm
I felt a special pride that you were on the show just as I have been proud to be part ONE since shortly after it’s founding. Getting President-Elect Obama to commit is relatively easy. Getting support for Africa and the world’s poor from all quadrants of the American political spectrum is much harder and that’s what you’ve been able to do.
January 19, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Bono,..a brilliant man with a beautiful soul.
January 19, 2009 at 4:53 pm

I think that the ‘event at the Lincoln Memorial’ should be sold as a video and CD and profits go to AMERICA & AMERICANS IN NEED…or to the deficit…the ultra wealthy have enough…time for the people, cause without us….the wealthy would not be so. Purchases should also be tax deductible. I would also like us to stop defining each other in terms of black or white or asian or hispanic…..how about men and women and children…not by the color of our skin, nor our practices…time to stop and stop pushing religion into politics. This is the message I want to see.
January 19, 2009 at 4:55 pm
ISN’T IT AWESOME THAT BUSH HAS DONE MORE FOR THE PEOPLE OF AFRICA THAN ANYONE IN HISTORY BY GIVING THEM BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO ERADICATE AIDS!
THE PEOPLE OF AFRICA ABSOLUTELY WORSHIP GEORGE W. BUSH!

One = Hope
U2+Obama+One = Unstoppable!
January 19, 2009 at 4:56 pm
I thought I would never get to see you guys preform live. It was a great show last night, even though the crowd had to watch it on the jumbo tran . I loved the message at the end of the song about everyone’s dream I especially loved how you said a Palestinian dream.
keep doing what you do guys.
Love always
January 19, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Thank YOU Bono for continuing to be such a huge inspiration.
U2, the groundbreaking band who wrote PRIDE and performing on the very spot where MLK gave THE speech, truly reminds the world that humanity can and will rebound to our collective God-given greatness. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
January 19, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Simply beautiful! A change is going to come and we will begin to see humanity and good will again develop internally and externally in our government and country to put forth revenue for all global assistance. Bono and the ONE Campaign are an inspiration for what can be done for people who live with scarcity, disease, poverty, and all other compelling needs that so many people forget exist or choose not to look at. Thank you for bringing this all to the light, keep it going, we will be the helping hands to make it succeed!
January 19, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Love it, love you, love the cause!
January 19, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Ah, Bono . . . Truly a good voice, for OUR world, in song and in life. Thank you.
To those who don’t already know: Bono wears tinted glasses to protect his sensitive eyes, NOT because he’s a ‘rock star!’
January 19, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Bono & U2 are my heros!!
U2 fan for life!!!!!!!!
January 19, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Hello bono,
Thanx for speaking out on behalf of the world poor and sick. Don’t forget that the number one question asked Obama was “Will you legalize marijuana?”. Don’t forget about the benefits that medical cannabis can have on the millions of suffering Africans. I am very disturbed when I hear that UN Police are using international aid money to persecute cannabis growers in Africa and destroy such an important beneficial crop. You have enormous influence on UN leaders, and some of the world’s most powerful people. Please don’t think for a moment that by removing cannabis the UN is in any way helping the poor people of Africa or any other continent. This is a grave injustice, and God is watching. The cannabis plant can help to provide food, clothing, shelter, safe medicine, and eco-friendly fuel. If you really want to help the poor, let them grow hemp, and if you must get involved, help them succeed in taking advantage of the many benefits of the hemp industry.
Keep up the good work, and help us stop the bad work.
Thanx. http://www.nycamp.org
January 19, 2009 at 5:03 pm
I tip my hat to you and your band. Thank you for speaking out – your passion comes through whole-heartedly!!! And thanks for using your voice not only for music, but to help others in need – this truly is a blessing. I know you have been an inspiration to many – including myself. May God continue to bless you and your work. Together we CAN make a difference.

It’s because throughout history there have been and are good people willing to do good to lead us to this place. Thank you Bono for your continued action to help those who need it. When I get discouraged I think of what you said at the TED Awards, “I can’t change the world, but WE can”
January 19, 2009 at 5:04 pm
U2′s music and philanthropy has always tickled my soul in the same way The Edge tickles the guitar strings. I have listened to you guys since I was a teenager and I’m almost as old as you 4 boys from the north side of Dublin, now. Your music and your worldview challenge me to open my heart wider.
January 19, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Love you Bono and all that you are doing. I just wish I could have watched the shobut I don’t have HBO and I guess they had the exclusive rights.
January 19, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Bono!!!
You are an AMAZING inspiration!!! I have been a fan way before I could tie my own shoes. I have had the honor of meeting you on more than ONE occasion and you have such a humble spirit about you. You are one of the reasons I now make a yearly trip to Africa to volunteer where needed… Rwanda has stolen my heart:) God bless you the band, ONE, and (RED) as you continue to bring an end to poverty and aids and as you continue to show love and support to all people!!! That is truly what the love of God is all about! You are my hero and look forward to serving with you for years to come!!!! And for everyone who keeps knockin him for wearing his sunglasses… Maybe if you knew why he does it you would leave him alone so stop the judging and believe in something bigger than yourselves already sheesh!!!
Sincerely
A very proud Irish American
January 19, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Thanks Bono for your great work and great music! Obama’s going to need a strong, public, vocal movement that demands an end to hunger and poverty if he is to enact the change we want. He needs organized support. I hope we can continue to build the movemnet and hold more public events and actions. Also, I hope we can make the connections, as Dr. King dared to do, and call for the abolition of war, poverty, the death penalty, nuclear weapons and global warming, the coming of a true global promised land of nonviolence. Thank you. God bless you and all. — Fr. John Dear, S.J.

Pride in the name of love…
Pride I have today in our country for choosing to do the right thing, to go down the right road, to renew and refresh the faith of our fathers in freedom and justice.
Thank you U2 for giving voice to our pride and continuing the dream. Thank you Bono for your words, thank you Edge for your melody, thank you Adam for your heartbeat, thank you Larry for your pulse.
Love, Ali

Thanks Bono!!..U2 did a great job! It’s a new Day and they couldn’t have picked a better band to kick off the celebration! As for this American….you’ve been in MY heart for 28 years! Love you!…and from a fellow Wilmington, Delawarean…thanks for the shout out to Joe Biden! He’s a good man, and will be a great wing-man to Barack!
Thank you for your inspiration to All of us! Keep up the good work and we will on our end too!
January 19, 2009 at 5:21 pm
In the name of love, “thank you” for a great performance and for continuing your focus on the most needy among us. One world!
January 19, 2009 at 5:25 pm
HI B0N0,
Thanks for this message. It’s always GREAT to hear from you here in the ONE Blog especially since you are the co-founder (along with Bobby Shriver) of this organization.
I was very pleased by your message to us. I only wished that we could have seen the parts of the message that were edited – I have a feeling that those clips would have been very interesting to view.(smile)
While I love your music and have been a follower of U2 since 1980, I want to remind us all that ONE is NOT an extension of your fan base (or shouldn’t be). As you said yourself, Bono, the doubling of aid to Africa by the Obama administration will be very hard to actualize in the current economic crisis.
This is why we, as ONE members need to be out in our communities, gathering more signatures for ONE and bringing more people over to our movement in order to make our dream of this doubling of aid to become a reality for Africa’s People.
This is why I paid for and staffed a ONE booth at our local MLK Day Celebration & Festival in Austin TX. This is the FIFTH year in a row that I have done this (along with other local ONE outreach opportunities during the year) and will continue to do this until AIDS & extreme poverty are no more in Africa.
I gathered nearly two hundred signatures for ONE today, Bono, and I will be sending them into the national office this week. Hopefully these new ONE members will make a POSITIVE difference for Africa in the future.
So THANK YOU, B0N0, for your message and for your MAGNIFICENT performance yesterday @ the Lincoln Memorial. It was a true highlight of the concert….especially your personal courage in reminding us of “a Palestinian dream”.
Kudos Bono – please don’t let any of us ever change you or try to re-arrange you. You are EXCELLENT just the way you are. Take very good care of you, Bman.
See you “on the road” during the upcoming tour. Blessings always.
ONE HEART, ONE HOPE, ONE VOICE, ONE LOVE – debbie:)

Thanks for holding the torch of music so high Bono & U2 – you guys have been my favorites since high school and my passion is validated by your daring to confront injustice in the world and accomplishing so much on the international front. I am scratching at the music industry in my own way by trying to be and introduce women of substance to the music companies to even out the rosters. Rock on!

I was glued to my TV yesterday too, as I am today and will be tomorrow! I was so thrilled when Bono came out to perform. He has done so much to inform and improve this world. It is such a better place because of him. And, if everyone would follow his example, It would be even better!!!! Bono, you and your band are such a blessing. I love you. My thanks, thoughts and prayers are with you always!!

What an awesome concert! I have loved U2 since I heard your first music which was more years ago than I can remember…. I have often told my friends that I would easily pay hugh money to see a U2 concert, because I have never had the pleasure, but after being a member of ONE, I would gladly give that same money to feed the hungry and heal the sick. I am just a poor 53 year old lady with MS, and I cant afford much, but I can send my voice, and I always do whenever ONE asks me to. God Bless you Bono and U2, for you are truly what this world needs, ONE LOVE! Peace, Bobbi Hughes
January 19, 2009 at 5:30 pm
Well spoken. I loved it when you said “God Bless America; God Bless the World.” You are the world’s greatest ambassador.

Bono,
Thank you.
To All Americans,
Please come together as ONE NATION and pledge to hold up Barack Obama as he takes the oath of “ONE” holding the weight of the entire world!
Get inspired – Go inspire!
January 19, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Thank you U2 and Bono for such a beautiful song and strong performance. I especially liked that you mentioned Palestine along with Israel and the other Countries striving for peace. Despite the many challenges facing America and the World right now, I am energized and optimistic that the World is changing in a most beautiful way. I feel privileged to be alive and will cherish each opportunity I have to make a positive difference in someone’s life.
January 19, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Bono has always been a musical inspiration to me, from the first song of his I ever heard. His political lyrics and activism also set an incredible example. As my band’s music and gigs continue to join forces with causes we believe in, we thank U2 and other outspoken artists for showing that art and speaking out and powerful ways to raise awareness. If anyone’s in SoCal, get in touch.

Bono,
Thank you for believing in America and holding us up to the highest of ideals.
I wasn’t there in person yesterday, but the love came across loud and clear. And I have to believe Dr. King was there with you, his pride growing stronger than ever.
Keep inspiring! Drew

January 19, 2009 at 6:02 pm
BONO:
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK , DON’T EVER STOP FIGHTING FOR THOSE WHO NEED THE MOST AND WILL HAVE NO VOICE IF PEOPLE LIKE YOU DON’T SPEAK FOR THEM.
GOD BLESS FOR ALL THE GOOD YOU ARE DOING.
PLEASE DON’T STOP
January 19, 2009 at 6:03 pm
I’ve been a proud member of ONE, because it is about fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves. I also sponsor children in both Kenya & Ecuador.
While Bono is pressuring Barack Obama to carry through on his commitment to help the poor, Bono, as a self-professed born-again Christian, should also be pressuring him to stop the FOCA act Obama promised Planned Parenthood. Those who can’t fight for themselves include the world’s tiniest living, breathing, human beings in the US, in Europe, and everywhere abortion isn’t just legal, it’s a common way of life to make mothers and babies “enemies”. How can we help third world countries when we cannot even help ourselves?? Bono, please hear this!!
January 19, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Thank you so much for being part of this wonderful time in America’s history. Like so many around the country, we worked very long and hard to support the candidate who would put this beautiful USA back on the right track. Barrack will be our leader, but as he reminds us, over and over, we are all responsible for doing our part to assist in the outcome. No one is exempt. One day at a time, we all move ahead together with renewed spirit and a dedication to make the right decisions.
January 19, 2009 at 6:04 pm
Bono,
You are an inspiration to the world and you will be remembered forever. You have done so much to end suffering…you are a blessing. Keep up the good work and sing on…
January 19, 2009 at 6:04 pm
One of the great thiings about U2 and all the band members is consistency. What you all showed yesterday with your music and your message was nothing short of outstanding….but that is what I expected as that is what you have delivered since day one when I started following you over 25 years ago….and from everything I have read, how you have always been since your start.
And then I got to wake up this morning, check into my U2.com subscription and hear the new single from new album that is in official release countdown mode. Awesome as expected.
You are such a huge part of my life any millions others because you give us the ultimate win/win….yes, the best band and music in the world by far…but you speak what so many of us believe in our hearts….that ALL OF US…..are all equal and ALL OF US deserve a life of freedom, family, love, and prosperity in our lives from birth until our exit to heaven.
Thanks for being who you are….see you on the road many times in the upcoming tour!
January 19, 2009 at 6:09 pm
It was so great to watch you play at the concert. I think your band is one of the great things that has ever happened to the world.
January 19, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Bono I love what you are doing. Keep up the good and good will always follow you. You will always have my support. May God bless you.

My Hat goes off to the Love U2 brings to the world. Many Blessings to all of you and to your families.

I haven’t felt this hopeful since JFK’s inauguation. My hope has been restored – I have a new sense of confidence in the good found in people of all colors – creeds etc.. WE ARE ONE !
January 19, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Bono,
You are an inspiration to all,I know God will always bless you for the good you do.Keep up the good work. I am proud to be an One member.
January 19, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Woodstock was a moment in time for the 60′s.
U2′s music and Bono’s message made me realize that Obama’s Inauguration is also going to be a moment in time for all history. About 18 hours to go. I’m excited.
January 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Bono, you were fabulous. I am proud that U2 were in the same line-up with Pete Seger and I am proud that “One” stand for unity in the world. We all deserve freedom and to be free. Amen! You rock.
January 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I was there! I was Moooved!
January 19, 2009 at 6:29 pm
The saying is: “Birds of a feather flock together.” Due to the large increase in numbers of sincere and understanding individuals like Obama and you, at long last, the world is beginning to recognize that we are ALL of the same feather.
As for a time when: “The lion will lie down with the lamb,” I thank all that recognize that it wasn’t said that we had to just wait for a celestrial being to make that happen. Once we’ve understood that “We are one,” we should also know that: “Yes We Can.”
January 19, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Dear Bono,
You and U2 have been an inspiration to me… and your music, the soundtrack to my life! Meeting you at the booksigning outside Barnes & Noble in NYC changed my life and made me believe that anything is possible! To me, God’s way of showing me miracles happen! Keep up the great work on changing the WORLD. YOU change the temperature of the room!!!! God bless you! Love, Suzanne
January 19, 2009 at 6:36 pm
U2 band….I love you guys!
You have always been an inspiration to me.
Don’t ever stop what you are doing for the millions of the “most needed” around the world.
God Bless you and God Bless this America!
I have the priviledge to say on this day that I am a proud American, and I will serve in whatever capacity I am able to bring this United States forward, I have never had this kind of conviction before. It is people like you and Mr. Barack Obama that make me want to be a better citizen for my country.
Let’s make 2009 the year we march aide into Darfur!
January 19, 2009 at 6:37 pm
what else can i say…….this man is amazing. he has been vital in ONE’s success, and because he started this wonderful organization we have been able to accomplish more than anyone ever thought we could. Great job everybody, great job Bono. 2009 will be OUR YEAR.
January 19, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Dear Bono,
You could not have picked two better songs to play and sing on this very important date. As a long, long time fan, you and the members of U2 continue to impress me with your thoughtfulness and your get-up-and-go! I watched your performance with my husband, our friends and two daughters, 8 and 5. Our daughters sang right along with us — I told them that together, we are all ONE City of Blinding Light. You and the lads keep up the good work! We appreciate it.
January 19, 2009 at 6:40 pm
God Bless Bono for doing what he has for the impoverished and those in harm’s way!! If you haven’t heard the new single “Get on your Boots” it’s on the stereogum website:

I was moved to tears with U2′s performance of Pride. I am so glad to be part of this process, this generation and a loyal fan of U2.
By the way, I dig the new single
January 19, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Bono & the U2 gang have been an inspiration for me for at least 25 years now & I am so thankful that you allow me to contribute to The One Campaign. It is truly a passion I have in the heart.
January 19, 2009 at 6:47 pm
I felt the excitement as I watched the excitement in Bono’s face. Those who are fans, know what a moment that was for U2. How fun to perform there, for that event….Thank you. Thank you for your words which inspire and the energy you poor out as you perform for us. Makes me want to do something good and be someone others will be proud to know.
January 19, 2009 at 6:53 pm
It is a critical point in our country’s history.
I hope and pray that in the coming two years that president Obama will share the duty of reform by enabling the incorporation of proportional representation into our state house of reps elections so as to permit local third parties to hold him, the main two parties accountable and to make the center of our politics more dynamic and attenuate the trend towards extremism/cynicism/apathy that will likely take deeper root in the US and the world w. the difficult times ahead.
for more details google: “A New Kind of Third Party”.

A hopeful American. A long time U2 fan. We can change the world.
Cheers to a new beginning with new leadership and old time friends like
U2.
January 19, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Awesome message! Bono sends a very important message!! And ONE is a powerful voice….however, let me ask this of those reading…is anyone listening to the voices of the unborn…here in America? Please, for the starving…support ONE. Please, for those who are not allowed to be born… give them a voice. Who really… are the least among us? The many in America who are supporting the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)… have already been born. Let us stand and be ONE for the starving in Africa…as well as those not given a chance to speak. Thanks and keep up the great work, Bono!
January 19, 2009 at 6:58 pm
Could their be a better day, a better time? The inauguration of Barack Obama as the fullfillment of MLKs dream is really just the beginning, the commencement of us as Americans to become ONE for a better country, a better world. I am so proud to be an American and to be part of this movement- but we have so much to do. Thanks Bono for ONE. We cannot rest now. We really do need to seize the moment, spread hope NOW. We really have to propell this movement into action (in our communities, churches, families, workplaces) for the good of humanity around the world. Thanks for the start and don’t let US rest….
January 19, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Yes things are hard and yes finances are tight, but did you know stuggles can also be a blessing.
Have you ever taken the time to go for a long walk and just think?
Or have you ever sat outside and watched the birds fly by?
Maybe even sat at home with your family and just got to know each other alittle more.
There are so many things you can do that you don’t need money for and still have a great time and remembering to enjoy those precious moments in life God gives us.
There are great things you can do to make the world better to just like Bono and all the other caring people in this world.
Like holding the door for someone.
Or asking someone how they are and caring enough to actually listen.
If you see someone drop something ,pick it up for them.
Say Please and Thank-You
If you happen to have a couple extra dollars and you see someone who doesn’t ,buy them a couple of coffee or something to eat.
Take a few minutes to chat with a lonley or eldery person..sometimes you can change someones life just by letting them know some cares.
Help whenever you can ,however you can.
and most important show someone how music can heal(especially a band named U2).
God Bless all of you who take the time to make the world a better place no matter how large or small.
Take Care of yourselves and each other.
Kim

You have truly risen to the expectations of what God expects from us all. I am on my way and hopefully all of us will release our fears and insecurities and do our part. It was a pleasure watching you perform and your performance makes me wonder…what will I do when its my turn? This year I will do my part!
Thanks for inspiring me and the world!

January 19, 2009 at 7:11 pm
thank you for bringing these issues to the table. Your voice is louder than mine and you put it into the ears of many. this band makes me proud to be irish-american!
January 19, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Having lived both here in the U.S. and in Eurpoe and having experienced the message of “One” I have hope that the message was louder then the music. U2 is in my mind’s eye, the greatest band of all time, but the message I hope will be remembered long after the music.
January 19, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Bono there is hope in this generation and the generations to follow. I teach at a public school and the children could not believe the past injustices and how still today they exist our world. If only we could see through the eyes of children and believe we all deserve the basic needs. It is our ONE cause to light the world on fire and to inspire others to care. The next 4 years should bring many historical changes to look at the world as ONE! Lead the way Bono …music touches the soul!
January 19, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Bono,
We are One and the world is One. Thank you for bringing us all together. Together is the only way we can solve the problems of Darfur and world hunger. God Bless you and all the One contributers. Keep it going.
January 19, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Inspiration from involved, thoughtful people such as Bono will encourage others to do their part in making the world safe and prosperous for all mankind. Thank you, Bono, for sharing your big heart.
January 19, 2009 at 7:41 pm
In the name of love… Bono you are teaching us all what being a citizen of the world truly is. Never underestimate what just one act of kindness can do. Citizens of the US should follow your example to speak for those who can’t. The music of U2 brings peace, love and hope to us all. I have never been prouder of my Irish heritage than I am today. PEACE
January 19, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Dear Bono, It has been so awesome to see U2 as part of the inauguration festivities so far. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you on t.v., seeing you in Newsday, and Obama rocking with you and your comment about the apostrophe after the O was priceless. One of my dreams was to see U2 in concert and I was able to make it happen during your Vertigo tour. My best friend Heather and I (who are both Long Island Irish) went to see you at Madison Square Garden. I have to share this with you: While Heather and I had just gotten to our seats we were looking all around us to see who was sitting near us. I looked behind me and I saw a group of people waving a flag from their home country. One of the guys said to me “Hi! Wer’e from Mexico, UNO, DOS, TRES, CATORCE!” That was priceless!!!!!! When I got home that night and told my big brother who was visiting from California, he thought it was hysterical!!!!! That was so awesome!! Thanks to you Bono for all your hard work.
Love and Prayers. Wishing you a happy, healthy, and safe New Year. Fondly, Melissa Havern
January 19, 2009 at 7:49 pm
You are an inspiration to all the world. Keep up your good work and keep singing. The world and its leaders are all listening. I too am a ONE supporter.
January 19, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Wow! Once again Bono and U2 have out-done themselves. From Miss Sarajevo to DATA, to the ONE compaign to product (RED) and Edun clothes made in Africa. Here is a man that puts his energies in to what he really believes and cares for. If only we could all replicate that, wouldn’t we have a wonderful world for EVERYONE, regardless of color, race, gender, wealth, etc.? I’ve grown up with you, Bono, and you’ve always been a huge inspiration even when I was a young teenager not knowing what the heck I wanted to be when I gew up! What’s better is that I’m passing that on to my daughter who at the age of 5 went to her first concert…You and Edge gave her a thumb’s up (she was hoisted up on my shoulders). You made my day because I’ve always wanted to have the opportunity to meet you, but just the simple act of motioning to my daughter was enough. Her reaction was something I can’t describe. Keep up the tremendous work you and the boys do! You’ve got us supporting you ALL THE WAY!!! Love and Peace, Chrissy

May God bless you and all those who spread peace & love throughout this big blue ball of ours.
It has been quite a few years since I have been proud of this nation. Now I am overjoyed.

Hello fellow ONE member,
I appreciate Bono speaking out on behalf of the worlds poor and sick. Don’t forget that the number one question asked Obama was “Will you legalize marijuana?”. Think about the benefits that medical cannabis can have on the millions of suffering Africans. I am very disturbed when I hear that UN Police are using international aid money to persecute cannabis growers in Africa and destroy such an important beneficial crop. Bono has enormous influence on UN leaders, and some of the world’s most powerful people. Please don’t think for a moment that by removing cannabis the UN is in any way helping the poor people of Africa or any other continent. This is a grave injustice, and I’m sure the sick and dying Africans effected by such laws would agree. The cannabis plant can help to provide food, clothing, shelter, safe medicine, and eco-friendly fuel. If the One Campaign really wants to help the poor, we should let them grow hemp, and if we must get involved, help them succeed in taking advantage of the many benefits of the hemp industry.
I hope Bono keeps up the good work, and helps to stop the bad work.
Thanx. www.nycamp.org

January 19, 2009 at 8:07 pm
To see you, Bono, and the rest of the guys sing Pride, live, right there on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial was truly thrilling! I was so unbelievably excited. I felt like I was there – I certainly was singing with you! A real high. I’m so proud of us for reaching this point as a nation. I’m so proud of you for all you do. May we really move toward our new life as a peaceful nation under Barack Obama’s leadership. In the name of love! Yes!

ONE Team,
I have been a member of ONE for two years. It is truly inspiring to see so much support to fight global poverty. In these difficult economc times, I must admit I have been questioning how and when ONE will fit in the US budget, particularly when so many families here are struggling financially. But I know that global poverty will not go away with inaction. So, not only am I committed to keep ONE on my global radar but also domestically.

Isn’t it awesome that President Bush has done more for the people in Africa than anyone in history by providing billions of dollars to eradicate AIDS!
The people of Africa absolutely ADORE George W. Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 19, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I was at the Lincoln Memorial yesterday to witness the beginning of a new era for the U.S. and I hope the world. I’m so moved because all my life I’ve heard that all people are created equal but have never really witnessed the truth in that until now. I’m so proud of the American People for electing a person based on his content of character. And for you Bono, we should all strive to make change in the world as you do. Thank you for your work.

What? it takes the old lady to say:
BONO YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 19, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Bono and U2,
You continue to inspire, as so many before me have pointed out. I have long been hopeful for the political tides to turn and I am more hopeful than ever now that Barack Obama is our President!
Bono, I have been proud of you and grateful to you for your work in ONE, calling millions to action to make a difference in the lives of the impoverished. It is happening! Barack Obama has similarly sent a call to action to all Americans, calling us to get involved in our communities, helping others.
This is the work that needs to be done. You are my heroes and the heroes of millions when we have had to look hard to find a hero. You are one of us (not perfect and neither are any of us) and yet you put your heart and your work into helping others… and so you show us how to be better in so doing… and for this, you are heroic. I am inspired that big change is in the works… like the 100th monkey theory, we are moving toward reaching the critical mass needed to see fundamental change.

By the way, Bono, the Edge, Adam, and Larry, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come to Boise, Idaho some day soon! We’ll welcome you with open arms and hearts!
January 19, 2009 at 8:52 pm
One of the things I most admire about the ONE organization and its supporters is that people are actually living as human beings, and looking beyond the borders of the cities and states to have compassion, care and determination to help the causes of our fellow brethren in other countries. The popular attitude has long been that “it’s not my problem nor in my country, we have our own issues” yet in reality, it is all of our problem. My prayer is that ONE proliferates and grows with more and more people, that our voices continue to be heard and that people like Bono/U2 use their fame to speak for all of the rest of us. Bono and U2, I knew from all the years of listening to you that there was more at the core of you than the traditional band. You have stayed popular with the masses for all these years and will continue to be loved by us. Thank you for NOT being selfish entertainers and for giving of yourselves so freely. May you continue to be blessed by God.

Dear Mr. Hewson AKA Bono, Thank you for all that you have done for the “ONE TEAM”. I have been an active member for the past four years and i really enjoy making a difference in the world! I saw your last concert on your VERTIGO tour in Pittsburgh,Pa and that is when i bought my “ONE” bracelet band! I am so very proud to say that i have helped in the fight to make poverty history! As for you being born in Ireland and then coming to America and making all of the changes that you have by working with our Presidents i truly admire and respect you! You have done so much more than so many AMERICANS have who were born here in the US by
working with our government and teaching them and all of us the importance of helping those much less fortunate than us. I also am a huge fan of U2 and truly admire you as a person. I can not wait for your new album and of course the tour! Hopefully i will be blessed with the chance of meeting you when you come back to Pittsburgh! You have a huge heart and are truly an amazing human being. As an American woman i am so very proud to say that you Mr. Hewson have succeeded in making a difference for not only those all over the world but for me as well! Thank you for all you have done!
God Bless,

Bono,
God had quite a vision when he placed you on this earth. There is no one as dedicated as you in truly uniting the world as ONE! You are my inspiration in teaching middle school children when we consistantly discuss tollerance and equality to all. I hope that some day I will be blessed by meeting you in person. Thank you, thank you for all that you do and I will continue to support ONE and support humanity just as you do.

Mr. Hewson (Bono),
I’m 15 years old living in a world where not only me, but thousands of other people are supporting you, The ONE campaign, and The (RED) campaign. Supporting the fight against AIDS in Africa and helping to unite our World as ONE. You truly inspire me to be all I can be. You are a true hero to our world and to do what you do takes a lot of effort. I admire that. I know I may sound like another 15 year old who is obsessed with their favorite rock star, but you are more than that. I watched you and U2 play in Washington D.C and was astounded by your dedication and performance to our country. You make me believe that I, as an individual, can make a difference. Thank you!
U2 is amazing and I hope you come back to Buffalo as part of your tour for your new album.

Dear U2 and Bono. Thank you for all you do. You seriously made me cry when you kept singing “in the name of love.” It’s a great song. Please keep up your efforts with ONE. There isn’t anything more important. I am a 60 year old professor who worked for civil rights in the ’60s and sang “We Shall Overcome” more times than I could ever recall. I am just an ordinary white woman who has watched many, many students pass through my classroom with low self-esteem, anger, and despair because of their race, my heart often broken because this country could not promise them more. But now, I look around at raised spirits!!! It IS a “Rising.” And the promise IS there, and they all know it. They are SO excited and hopeful and have dignity that no one can take away. Even though there is still poverty on many levels, and a lot of work to do, and it will all take time, nevertheless, I also know my students will be singing that song again tomorrow with a new final verse – “We HAVE overcome.” The great day has come. Where is Martin today? I think his spirit is with us for sure.

Theses are great times. As we are all being called on to unite and be as one, let us not forget the innocent, unborn children who do not have a voice. They must rely on us to save them from the death sentence that is abortion. Let us hope that our new president works to defend the lives of the unborn, that he breaks from the attitudes and opinions he has expressed regarding human life. There are better options than abortion, let us educate people about this. Please help us Mr. Obama, and you too Bono if you would, please.

Bono, you are an inspiration to the world. You are a leader among leaders, and a force to be reckoned with. You are the voice of the needy, and a hero to the hurting. You are a super star, rock star and an ambassador for those without a voice. Thank you for being you. I have been a U2 fan for over 25 years…since the beginning, and I will be until we are all gone. My admiration grows and the respect for you and your causes is beyond words. Again, all I can humbly say is “THANK YOU!” We are all ONE!
January 19, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Bono,
It is evident that your soul longs for justice and compassion for all, and ultimately for G-d, because you have understood that this great, incomprehensible miracle, the gift of being, is something which is so ineffably beautiful, all that is, deserves to live, even unto eternity.
And your reward, it is my hope, is the thought that one day everything will be made new. And all that was, and, is will be forever. I knowthat that is my hope.
Especially when I attest the senseless killings of millions human beings, right where the promise of a new life awaits them, in the womb, where their right to inherit life is all but forgotten, because of convenience, or the assertiveness of a culture that demands pleasure without responsibility, and the pursue of happiness, without compromise for the well being of others.
May you find G-d,
Sincerely,
Edmondd
in the womb, because the choice to live does not depend on them.

“Thank God the rest of my American family decided enough was enough. Why, why was George Bush never impeached, that’s what I am still screaming!!!” – so sad.
Thank you Bono for acknowledging that BOTH candidates were committed to this cause, and let us not forget that Bush committed 15 billion to Africa to fight the spread of AIDS. WE obviously need to do more, and that was just the beginning. Keep fighting the fight Bono.
Let us also remember that one man is not to blame, nor can one man solve it all.

Dear Mr. Bono,
For many years now your voice has been such an inspiration. It seems I can never get enough of listening to your reasoning for that which is just and fair. Not only is your music AMAZING, but you are an amazing man. I have faithfully worn my ONE bracelet, in dedication to the truths I have always heard come from your lips and I have followed and listened to every speech you have ever given. I marvel at your very steady way of making the truth be known.
It is a wonderful thing you have done with your time, dedication and resources and I, for ONE, in the world, want to say “THANK YOU” for standing up for all of those people oppressed in the world, needing sustenance, medical supplies and love and concern. Applause is not enough.
It is and has been because of you that I have stood steadfast for ONE and will continue to do so.
With endless respect and affection,
Your friend in SoCal…

What message of inclusion could have been complete had it not included U2?
Bono you and your band mates are to be commended continually for reminding us and keeping our hearts and minds focused on the challenges that we need to address together. One of the key moments of today’s concert was for me the moment when the sense of history touched you and lit up your face and all you could say was “wow”. And to think that you four were able to perform “Pride” on this day and for this man of the people.
Thank you
for sharing in our joy and lighting the way with song for so long…

January 20, 2009 at 4:07 am
Bono,
Repeating the words of those who commented before me, you serve as a great example to all of us and remind us of the things we are supposed to do to help others. I have been a fan since the first week of August, 1992, when you guys rehearsed for the Zoo TV tour in Hershey,PA. My friends dragged me to the concert (I am ashamed to admit that), but something happened in me that night that took me to another level. My friends are very sorry for what they did, because I could not keep quiet about U2 since that night!!! I was inspired to continue creating music and to take action on injustice. In 2005, during your tour and when I learned about the ONE Campaign, I once again went to a “new level” and have renewed dedication to helping everyone I can help.
Your work is very important, and you do it well. I am grateful to God that I became a U2 fan. Your music never ceases to amaze me!

You remind me of Gordie Howe – and that is the highest compliment that a Canadian can give.
In the world of hockey a Junior gets a signing bonus greater that all the money that Mr Howe made in his carreer.
When we look back at what you have done – you will understand.
Peace brother – you are doing the best you can.

No tempo do parecer sem ser;

Bono, you and the man Geldoff are the real tough guys. The real good guys. The real deal. I’ve been an admirer for many years. Remember that concert back in the eighties when that knucklehead got up on the roof of the stadium and you told him to get down? That was my first mega rock concert.
I was living in the middle east as a youngster when a pal from Dublin brought me Under A Blood Red Sky as a gift. I’ve been a big fan ever since. I couldn’t wait to get back home to Wexford to be a real Irish U2 fan.
I’m a husband, father, photographer, blogger and humourist and only recently returned to full-time shooting after being a stay at home dad for a while. Your endeavours, along with Mr. Geldof’s (whom I photographed once in his office in Leicester Square many years ago) inspire me to do meaningful work as a photographer.
Rock on gentlemen.
Best,

dear bono!!!
you also are an inspiration to those of us, who have limited resources and oprtunities to help make africa a better place for africans.
I use every small oportunity however to put my small part into this struggle for a better conduct of all of us. You have given me and many others many of these oportunites.
thank you.
January 20, 2009 at 5:57 am
Bono makes good music but should stay out of Africa as he knows very little about this continent.
Giving aid is adding to the problem, it is giving the dictators weapons to suppress their people till the end. Lots of money disappeared and ended up buying weapons. Food-aid is also used as political weapons. Sending in the army (which army?) will only stop the suffering.
Bono should stay in Ireland and make music and lots of money….how much of that is donated to Africa and which country? Which dictator could buy his ….. mercedes Benz (it is called Benz Aid for the ignorant people here)
It seems that the extreme left-wing multi millionaires are now telling the masses to donate money. Don’t as it will add to the misery of people in Africa.

Bono, Don’t forget that along with Obamas promise to double aid to Africa there is also his promise to increase US troops in Afghanistan. Another of the worlds poorest countries. I wish you would start to use your voice more for the poor countries of the world which are outside the continent of Africa.
And when you say that the people of America let you into their hearts to perform on the steps of the Lincoln monument, I find it hard to believe that you wont get paid, if you get paid, it’s not about your heart or theirs, it’s about your wallet.
Still, you can sing, so thanks for that!
January 20, 2009 at 6:38 am
Can you say Saint Bono !
January 20, 2009 at 6:40 am
So proud to be part of this, so proud to be part of ONE campaign! Thank you Bono, thank you U2, thank you world for being part of this! And most importantly thank you God for being always by our side!
January 20, 2009 at 6:55 am
The religiosity I’m seeing here frightens me some. We can only help ourselves. We’re on our own. It’s just us. Collectively as a species we can and likely will achieve great progress in this century and in the centuries to come. Let’s just leave notions of god out of it. It just holds us back.
I know this is hugely provocative but it needs to be said. I’m NOT trying to pick a fight.
I only hope someone can back me up.

Keep up the good work Bono! We are an army of people with the same values, the same faith as yours, engaged in the same fight against extreme and silly poverty! It is indeed a celebration day for us too! Not only because U2 was performing but because we are part of an historic moment for America and the world too. God bless you.

It”s very god!
I like it.
January 20, 2009 at 7:08 am
Bono go on this way! You’re doing a great job, we can make poverty histori, I do believe this.
Thank you Bono – Thank you U2
January 20, 2009 at 7:11 am
Paul, notions of God are some peoples preference when trying to make sense of the universe, i dont think they should be left out of it. I do think that those who are believers and those who are not believers in God should allow each other their view without fear of being chastised.
I would like to bring some balanace to this blog. Firstly, I want to clarify, is this blog about Bono or about the ONE campaign? Bono was a co-founder of it, but this shouldnt be about him, i think we are getting carried away in a flood of envy and admiration for Bono, who is a musician, not an elected representative and I believe should start acting as such, now, that may be me just taking a swipe at Bono because i am also from Dublin and he very proudly claimed how he was privilaged to be performing as at the concert “4 guys from the North side of Dublin” Bono has lived on the Posh southside for the last 20 years, he has no business registered in Ireland because he avoids paying tax there… Oh i was right, I am taking a swipe at Bono!!!
But this is getting off the point of this chain of messages I think
But, let’s not lose sight of the One campaign, an honourable mission in my humble opinion
January 20, 2009 at 7:14 am
Bono, you are an inspiration for all of us.
God bless you.
We will follow you.
January 20, 2009 at 7:23 am

Keep up the good work, nay GREAT Work. Thank you.

p.s. I note from from Alan Hayes’ observations, that the Irish inclination to knock their own is alive and kicking,….
January 20, 2009 at 7:25 am
Been a fan since the band started and all I can say is what a thrill it was for me as a long time fan to see them perform infront of the memorial. Hopefully the “change” will come that all ONE members want to see. I’m hopeful as Bono is that the new President will keep his promises to the worlds poor. Great job U2. Bono keep up all the good work you do for the under priviledge of the world. We need people like you, you’re an inspiration to all. Blessings.

January 20, 2009 at 7:29 am
Hahaha Good Woman Rosaleen… I guess it’s a matter of opinion whether im knocking him or stating my opinions. Either way, i dont disagree with any of the comments above,I do think people should think a little harder before saying they will follow Bono wherever he goes or whatever he does, he is a musician, not an elected politician!
Oh, and the fact that he pays NO tax in ireland but is one of the richest citizens we have has me a little frustrated, especially when we are called to “patriotic duty” of paying more tax and taking pay cuts to get the economy up and running again!
January 20, 2009 at 7:30 am
Estimado Bono:

I love your music, I love your energy, I have been a fan of your band since day ONE!!
I watched your performance at the at the Lincoln Memorial, great job and very nice message to President elected Obama and Vicepresident Biden!
You give us hope!
Keep on
January 20, 2009 at 8:10 am
It’s not a matter of whether President Obama can live up to all the hype surrounding his campaign, what matters most is what he’ll do during his Presidency to double aid, not just to Africa, but to as many of the third world countries as he can. What matters is that everyone, not just American citizens, remind Obama that we not only want him to increase aid, but we NEED him to increase aid. U2 and Bono have spent their whole career making sure to spread that message, their lives and their music are beautiful because of it.
GO U2 and GO BONO!!!!!!!!!
January 20, 2009 at 8:15 am
Mr. Hewson,
Thank you and everyONE who works for ONE, making it possible for us to find a way to put into practice our care for the poor. From where I live I cannot do too much for the poor of the world, as there are enough poor around me who need help, but at least I can raise awareness and sign petitions. It’s a small way of helping, but it’s a way, anyway.
Keep creating great music full of sense and compassion and come to Europe with your band so we can caome and experience your performance live and not only on 3D.
Respect.

Ciao Bono,
Grazie.

January 20, 2009 at 8:32 am

Dear Mr. Hewson:
You and your posse have handled this particular global challenge with such grace and fluid movement that when you get to heaven you should ask God more than one question. Instead of asking why one of your legs is shorter than the other one; you should ask him if the gift he gave you and all that surround you and your family and band that moved us as humans to actually be given a chance to produce a 3rd dimensional illustration of this particular evolution of humans on earth. I personally have learned a lot and I know many others have to. The planet appears much more bent on forgiveness now…thanks to this (our) band of humans.
Sincerely,
me.

I’ve watched your performance the other day. It’s simply amazing the fact that after almost 30 years you’ve got the same power and will to change the world as the beginning. there are a lot of so called “stars” that think only at their careers and don’t care minimally about what happens in the world and about who’s less lucky than them.
Now, with the new President of the USA, Barack Obama, can we change the world? YES, WE CAN!!!
Proud of you all guys and proud of myself for being your fan.
Greetings from Italy!

This is why the boys are so beloved around the world! They could sit back and do nothing, but choose to be involved. They all take their involvement seriously, and think of it as an obligation. They are genuine heroes too.

Bono and U2…
You are the best musical group, and your leadership in humanitarian causes will be recognized for all mankind forever.
I Saw you in 2001 in Elevation Tour in Miami. Please… If someday you wish to come to Costa Rica, please don’t think twice. You’re welcome.
Thank you.

Just wanted to say a couple of things. I do believe we all need others who inspires us but it needs to be kept in perspective. Working / thinking as a collective makes a difference but our own egos and human faults are what overrides the long term effects. Maybe if we worked on being an inspiration to ourselves it would make a bigger difference because our actions would really follow through. I am also aware of Bono’s tax evasion – he was noted for actually ‘winning’ top evader in the New Internationalist publication. I don’t expect anyone to be perfect, I just think sometimes people want to follow another as a way of not looking at themselves first and for too long we have been looking in the wrong places and have created ‘heroes’ out of shallow based popularity.

Although I am not an American, I feel immensely proud of how much America has changed now… especially in terms of being aware of the plight of our less fortunate brothers and sisters around the world and wanting to do something to change it . I truly believe that Obama will be the instrument through whom God will spread each American’s kindness, generosity, love, and peace throughout the world.
Keep it up Bono and U2… You are soldiers of the best kind.

Alan Hayes,I disagree with you.Paying NO tax in Ireland should not distract people from what the guys do behind the scenes.Keep in mind that they tithe 10% of their income every year. While it is no one elses business how much that figure is,be assured that it is in the 10′s of millions. They do this without fanfare, without expecting a pat on the back.
I remember seeing them in the Boston area during their first foray into America. They were lucky if they had $10.00 between them, and they still gave their tithe.A couple of years ago I read a piece where Adam recalled the same thing and stated that “we are now in a much healthier position to help, and it would be ignorant of us not to do so”.These guys are genuine. So k
