Here’s the fantastic story of how two high school juniors, persuaded their mayor to make Monument, Colorado a City of ONE:
At ONE – Colorado Springs’ last meeting of the year, two young ladies from Lewis Palmer High School in Monument (where I live, just north of Colorado Springs) attended for the first time.
These young ladies, Stephanie Kostendt and Alex Swanson, are juniors at Lewis Palmer High School, and for a school project they went to the ONE.org web site and educated themselves about ONE and what it’s all about.
They saw the City of ONE effort listed and proceeded to get themselves scheduled at the December 3, 2008 Monument Town Hall meeting. They sent ahead packets of information about ONE, including the sample proclamation, to the Mayor and Council members. At the Town Hall meeting, the Mayor and council members asked them questions, which they answered satisfactorily from their study of the material on the ONE web site.
Mayor Byron Glenn signed a proclamation making Monument a City of ONE at the meeting! How exciting!
They are also attempting to start a ONE group at their school and stay in contact with us at ONE – Colorado Springs.

Thank you for giving these young ladies the recognition they deserved. May be if we get more of the small towns around Colorado Springs (Palmer Lake, Security, Widefield, Black Forest) involved as Cities of ONE, Colorado Springs may change their mind and come along!. Thanks so much to Stephanie Kostendt and Alex Swanson for their time and efforts.
