Ginny and Chris, happy holidays to you and yours, and the entire staff. with the office closed down i know you are all taking a breath before the first of the year when we hit the ground running with the 111th congress, new administration, new challenges, new benchmarks and goals.
it’s been an amazing year with ONE campus, ONE vote, ONE sabbath, ONE seattle. ONE on capitol hill for the Child Survival Act. ONE at the conventions. ONE bus, ONE music tours, ONE sending Mark to Seattle, ONE accompanying the president to africa, development of ONE Japan,France, and Germany, ONE in space. so many more too.
and for each of these moments there are at least one person in the office working long, hard days, a few traveling seeming more days then they are home, to equip us in the field. and there are thousands in the field being a voice for the voiceless we probably will never meet but are the reason we get out of bed in the morning. thanx so much ONE, you have no idea.
I’m looking forward to ONE 2009. the war on African extreme poverty has made amaizing progress over the past few years, but we won’t, we can’t let up for a moment. 26,500 preventable deaths daily of little ones under five won’t allow us that luxury. people on ARV’s who can’t be weaned from them will need them next year, year after, year after that. TB and malaria as well. the continuation of millions of children finally able to go to school, especially the girls. many corporations are sharing their profits with african projects, the trade talks need to continue. odious debts dropped. ONE, especially here in the northwest, seems to have a cohesiveness that brings together and promotes the best of our partner’s platforms.
ONE seattle has goals and benchmarks, some established locally and some in development with ONE staff, a few events and our first congressional visit a week after congress kicks in next month. members here who have a pink slip in their Christmas stocking are expressing appreciation for a campaign that doesn’t want our money, but wants our voice. in this precarious economy, ONE may be just what many are looking for, as we don’t fundraise.
have an amazing holiday everyone, it goes by quickly. safe travels to you who are traveling and great blessings, again, thanx for an amazing ride, still i know we won’t be pulling into the station anytime soon. i’m glad we’re on this journey of equality together.
