I really like what Bush said here because I think it rings true on several levels. What America is tempted to do now during our economic crisis is focus on internal affairs and forget the developing nations. It mirrors what happens in our personal lives when we are facing a crisis: We turn inward and forget about everyone in the world around us. That's isolating and self-centered and not to our benefit. It's helpful to get outside our own circumstances to help others--it gives us a purpose higher than attending to our own interests. This is a solid point, and I applaud Bush for helping us stay on track morally and fulfill our responsibility to aid the world, even in the midst of financial wackiness and the ongoing electoral battle between the vices of conservatives and liberal illuminati, and of course, Bush's own ever-increasing unpopularity.
