Greetings and congratulations from ONE in San Francisco!

The Stand Up is an amazing breakthrough in social campaigning.

The ability to mobilize humanity worldwide to take action, all at the same time, to push for achieving
the most important development goals, is much more than a new "World Record". It is a sociological phenomenon. The new ability of humanity to communicate, collaborate and act as one.

Here in the San Francisco we had high students and college students on both sides of the bay area Standing Up and learning about the Millennium Development Goals.

In the future, the future we are taking a stand to create, it is possible that the grandchildren of these students will really live in a world that has made extreme poverty history. They will have to go to a "Poverty Museum", described by Mohamed Yunus in his latest book, to learn about what poverty was. Just like we go to a Holocaust museum today to learn about that history.

That is what the Stand Up means to me. A very clear demonstration that we now have the ability to work together and make poverty history.

Using this wonderful global communications system, I send my best greetings to my fellow White Band campaigners in Washington and London and Kampala.

Cheers,
Brian Webster

I am very glad to see Africa Action in the ONE Blog as this is one of the African-oriented organizations that I have supported for many years.

Yet, I am dismayed that AA is not aware of the fact that ONE has taken stances against climate change through many of its partner organizations and ONE does have a fact sheet which we regularly give out at ONE booths regarding the link between climate change and extreme poverty.

Also, our co-founder Bono has on numerous occasions publicly has linked the climate change crisis with the rise of extreme poverty in Africa - especially in Darfur.

So, while I welcome you personally into the ONE Blog, Africa Action, I also implore you to look more closely at the ONE site and to make more direct connections with our national office to continue this discussion.

All the Best, debbie :)

As part of your campaign to stand up against poverty, I would suggest standing up against the way our leaders are tackling climate change! Caused for the most part by wealthy nations, climate change is becoming a major source of poverty, conflict and debt in the developing world and reinforcing global inequalities between rich and poor countries. Rich countries are making moves to combat climate change, but they are channeling their money to an institution that will only make things worse--the World Bank!

Get informed about the World Bank's program against climate change and how it will increase poverty: http://africaaction.typepad.com/justafrica/2008/10/can-the-develop.html

PS: We are a BEAUTIFUL international family - united AS ONE on behalf of the poorest people on this earth.

That is a blessing and a responsibility that each ONE of us carries out to the best of their ability.

I REMAIN....ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE - debbie:)
