I am not opposed to my taxes raising-and I'm not rich. Everyone wants something for nothing. Could you spare $200 more a year on taxes? Yes. Yes, you could. 53 cents a day. How will we pay for it? We will scrimp and save. Stop buying cigarettes, stop buying booze, stop splurging on crap food at Walmart and pay a little more taxes- stop wasting. Start thinking, start carpooling, start getting inventive on reusing...do you really need that new GLADE PLUG IN? Do you really need that jug of FEBREEZE? That bag of cheetos? I think it's disgusting that we are the only country where our poor are often FAT! Suck it up people. The country isn't going to run itself.

I think McCain's plans concerning foreign aid are much more feasible. Obama makes so many promises but everything he promises costs money. He claims he'll lower taxes for the lower and middle class, but if he does so how can he pay for all the programs he wants to put in place? His healthcare plan alone will cost trillions. There is no way he will be able to keep his promises to increase foreign aid.

Obama's tax plan will destroy the Social Security system.

Obama says his income tax plan will lower taxes for 95% of Americans. There is just one problem with this, 40% of Americans already pay no income tax. Obama's response to this is that these people pay Social Security tax. Well, that's not income tax, but a contribution to their retirement plan. So if he wins and implements his tax plan, for the first time in the history of Social Security, 40% of the people who will get retirement benefits will have paid nothing for them. Social Security will then loose all pretext of being a retirement plan, and will become a national welfare program.

This will cause Social Security to lose public support in a massive way. Leave Social Security contributions out of income tax plans. If you take some peoples income taxes to pay others Social Security taxes, Social Security will be destroyed forever.

In 2008, isn't the time right for the United States of America to re-focus attentions and resources to aid and assist the needs of our Domestic poor, and finally begin to give less to those in foreign lands?

I understand the fundamental reason for taxes but I also "get" why there was a "Boston Tea Party"!
As students, history is a required subject so that we as a nation learn from the past and move forward and not repeat our mistakes. That is a fine idea but maybe our government leaders need to take a refresher course! Our family has lived in the same house for 15 years and in that 15 years our property taxes have increased tremendously. We'd like to be able to improve our existing home but can't afford that luxury. It is our main asset and hope to be able to will it to our children when we are no longer living. We can't afford the upkeep with insurance, rising property taxes and just rising costs of everything! The real clincher is with all the rising costs, my husbands paycheck doesn't reflect a windfall of raises to balance out the cost of living increases. Our daughter wants to enter college next fall and I hope she is able to get a grant. I don't think a tax increase is the answer just because somebody wasn't responsible enough with what they had to work with in the first place. We got into financial trouble about 7 years ago. I was laid-off a position I held for 6 years and then 5 years later my son was diagnosed with systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis plus he has high functioning autism. This not only hits you financially but as anyone with children knows....it hits you personally. He started showing symptoms on his 13th birthday. The most disturbing issue is the fact our family dr. kept assuring me he had a virus and it would go away eventually.........well, 2 weeks in the hospital and a very long 3 years of meds and he is able to function, not 100%, but he has come a long way. Needless to say, I fired our family dr. @ midnight the night I took my son to the ER. You see, our insurance at the time made it impossible to go to another dr. if you had seen your dr. within the month. Thankfully, it was close to the end of the month. No one should ever be put in a spot like that. I knew if I went against my dr. and had taken him without a "referral" we ultimately would have had to foot the bill out of pocket.
I've really gotten off subject and apologize but my point is our family can not afford tax increases. I have a tent that sleeps 4, I got it so the kids and I could camp in the backyard for fun when they were little. I thought about selling it but I better hang on to it just in case we need it down the road.

I am wondering what the effect of Sen. Obama's tax increases will be on the poor. Will more people lose their jobs? Will companies raise the prices of their goods and services to offset the tax increases? Will money go to pay additional taxes instead of going to workers in the form of raises? Does anyone really think corporations pay taxes? They are just the collection arm of the federal government, collecting taxes from us as we pay more for the goods we must have. If we truly want to help the poor, we must fight to save jobs and reduce tax burdens so people will have enough money to pay their own bills as well as help others.
