I didn’t get this up here yet. It’s an op-ed from Republican Rick Santorum and Democrat Harris Wofford published in last week’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
An excerpt below, the full piece here.
Among the many questions before us then, and especially before the next president, is do we push forward with these bold, lifesaving initiatives and seize the opportunity to deliver a truly historic blow against hunger, disease and poverty? Or will our next president shrink back and not follow through on commitments to those suffering from poverty and disease?
These are uncertain times. All of us are faced with skyrocketing energy prices, a limping economy, two wars and threats from abroad. Yet the fight against extreme poverty and disease is not a zero-sum game, nor does it reside in a foreign policy vacuum, isolated from our efforts to combat terrorism or deal with unstable regimes.
We may differ on key aspects of our military engagement overseas, but we do agree that American generosity through foreign assistance, and the alleviation of poverty in volatile countries and regions is a form of “soft power” that we cannot afford to under fund.

As a lifelong Pennsylvanian, before retiring to Florida several years ago, I am very familiar with Senator Santorum and Harris Wofford. They are both good men, and One is fortunate to have them as representatives in Pennsylvania.

I would love to see ONE focus on areas of our country which seem to be under-represented in the ONE blog to give a much wider view of what is happening “on the ground” with ONE and ONE volunteers in their local areas – not just in the North East and in Nevada.
In fact, it would be nice to have a Blog Post like “ONE State of the Week” where EVERY state of the Union gets a chance in a rotation of 50 weeks to gather reports from ONE volunteers around their state and synthesizes ALL those reports in a blog post so that other ONE members can see what is actually happening with ONE around our country and where ACTIVE ONE VOLUNTEERS can get a “shout out” here in this blog. (appreciation for your active volunteers is always a good thing)
We must remember that ALL of our contributions to ONE are important and that could be better represented here in the ONE Blog.

Мой сосед по этажу, которого я ну очень “уважаю” (в переносном смысле), задумал купить кухню. Спустя некоторое время, мне перепала возможность абсолютно случайно зайти к нему в гости. Когда я вошёл в кухню, я увидел неописуемую красоту, при этом, такой кухни в москве я раньше не находил. Она была стильная , не громоздкая , просторная , очень удобная – в общем, обладала всеми теми критериями, которые я никак не мог разыскать в сочетании ни в одной другой кухне. Как и полагается, я начинаю выпытывать у соседа о том, где он взял такую прелесть. Кстати, хоть Витёк (мой сосед) и был нормальным мужиком, но его ЭГОистическое чувство зависти и жадности знали все, кто хотя бы раз с ним общался. Понятное дело, о покупке своей он мне ничего раскрыл. Я ему говорю: вот не пойму я твои выходки, сосед. Что случится, если ты мне скажешь – где ты это взял? Я ведь просто интересуюсь. А он тупо слушает и молчит, проклятый. Отвечает: мне хочется хоть чем-то отличаться от всех остальных, а стоит эта вещица немало.
Завистью я никогда не страдал. Мы с женой всё никак не могли присмотреть ничего подходящего, хотя желание поставить в квартиру новую мебель для кухни появилось у нас уже довольно давно. Думаю, все превосходно знают о том, что у нас не очень просторные квартиры. Особо повернуться в нашей кухне очень трудно. Однако, как и всем, хочется чтобы и стильно , и уютно , и красиво было , и комфортно . Я своей рассказал про мой поход к нашему соседу и о том, что чего я там узрел.
Но вот когда-то, шарюсь я по инэту и вижу интересное фото – на нём точно такая же кухня. Настроение у меня поднялось сразу же. Звоню в эту фирму, изготавливающую чудо кухни на заказ. Через две-три недели нашу обновочку привезли к нам. Собрали, установили. Зову соседа-педа. То, что он увидел придя к нам, повергло его в шок и депрессию одновременно. Нечто ужасное и неизвестное наполнило его лицо. По этому выражению морды-лица я понял, что он немножко расстроился.
C того дня уже прошло очень много времени, а у нас и сейчас с ним “холодная” война. И главное из-за чего война? Из-за кухни, капец. Вот только война у нас с ним односторонняя получается, аж странно. У меня к нему в принципе нет претензий, а он меня, едва видит, так закопать готов. Я даже тачку убираю подальше от окна его, а то мало ли что, возьмёт ещё и выкинет свой кухонный набор из окна и прямо на мою таёту.
Сейчас я занимаюсь поисками уже нового кухонного набора. Вот и думаю – не дай Бог мы второй раз однотипные купим – будет пиндец всему подъезду, потому что выходя на площадку одновременно и заметив друг друга, мы будем устраивать гладиаторские бои. Поэтому, жажду что-то такое, что позволит обновить мой старый кухонный набор, который послужил на славу. Вот когда нужно не спешить и хорошенько мозги изнасиловать – на кону жизнь всего нашего этажа.)) Тупо звучит, но всё же – главной задачей я считаю не допустить повторения кухни и всей истории.
