While on the bus traveling between locations in Rwanda, Cindy McCain reflects on the trip so far, noting the themes of forgiveness and the Rwandan women who are moving the country forward.
I am fascinated to have leared that Cindy McCain was in Rwanda in 1994. I would love to hear more about exactly where she was and when. I teach a college seminar on Rwanda, and have found eyewitness accounts to be a valuable teaching tool but in short supply.
Cindy McCain also mentions working in Goma after the genocide. Did this follow from her work in Rwanda, or was it part of the same trip?
I think it is clearly irresponsible that the media are giving so much coverage to Obama’s trip to Middle East and are totally ignoring this humanitarian venture by a group of truly committed individuals. It may be time to make some noise to the news outlets about this travesty. Thousands of people a day are dying and they are following around Barack Obama like some kind of rock star. It is disgusting. Now wonder Americans do not know what is happening in Africa.
ONE is campaigning to ensure that the Congressional budget does not cut foreign assistance programs like Feed the Future that help people break the cycle of poverty and hunger.
The Horn of Africa is experiencing its worst drought in 60 years. More than 11 million people, mostly nomadic pastoralists and farmers in south-central Somalia, north-eastern Kenya, and south-eastern Ethiopia, are severely lacking access to food.
2011 marks 30 years since the first cases of AIDS were documented. Take a closer look at the specific, achievable goals we must hit by 2015 to make this year the beginning of the end of AIDS.
As aid agencies warn more than 9 million people could be affected by a food crisis in East Africa, world leaders are failing to keep their 2009 promises to tackle the causes of chronic hunger and support farmers in the world's poorest countries.

I agree ONE still needs a LOT more visibility.
