While I am enjoying the posts from Sen. Frist and others as much as others here, I am concerned that we make sure to include Africans themselves in the discussions that we have, After all, who better to speak about Africa's challenges and Africa's strengths than the people in the Continent themselves? I hope that more African people, whether presently in the Continent or abroad, will post their personal stories in upcoming ONE Blog posts. I'm sure that others agree with me. I am an American citizen living in Rochester New York. I have frequented Rwanda since 1994. The purpose of this letter is to introduce you to my hero: my oldest sister Josaphine Mukasine at Matimba Medical Center in Eastern region, near the source of the Nile (Akagera R). My sister could be 70 yrs old but she functions at the age of 40. She walks 4 miles everyday to deliver babies. My sister has been doing so since 1994. She delivers over 35 babies a month. One time when I went to visit in 2001, a Catholic sister who was her boss pulled me aside and intimatwed to me that my family and the community have been blessed by my sister... up that time she had neither lost a baby nor a mother at the delivery place since 1994. I last visted her in 2004 and she was still delivering until this day. Like her, there are so many miracle workers all over Rwanda. I recommend you visit her center. Her phone number is 25008747677. I am also proud of my sister's kids. They have all done well . Felly has a PHD in languages (Russian, German, French and English) and has her own travel agency in Moscow, Russia; Gerald is Superitendent of Police in Kigali; Eugene was in the American vistor's program and was a Fulbright Scholar at University of Santiago, with master in Int'l Negotiastions. He has his own consulting business in Kigali. Joshua the last born just graduated from a Teachers instituite in kigali and is a born Again Christian. They are all on their own now. and even if I like to brag about their accomplishments, the closeness to my sister is unsurpassed... It is my pleasure to introduce her to you!!
