i was thinking of this last night deep into the night, how grateful i am that the work of ONE, of Save the Children, of the Global Fund, many more organizations of the important vote (a check written) for PEPFAR and global health and this great physician/friend of ONE, Dr. Frist / Senator Frist, there at the operating table for the life of one precious african among many millions.

and i thot of how grateful i am that the amendment for PEPFAR did not pass to slash it's TB funding, as my understanding is that the TB funding would be the first to be cut. and for a silent airborne illness, i personally feel that had that money been cut it could have been one of the worst crimes against humanity in my lifetime. David Briden of The Global AIDS Alliance shared on a conference call last month shared how much this TB inclusion in PEPFAR II meant to Desmond Tutu, how this PEPFAR is different than the first as it includes major TB funding. it's truly a global health bill this time.

at lobbying briefing in DC this week, we were joined by the Washington State TB Comptroller who informed us that our state of Washington now has registered ourfirst Multi-Drug-Resistant TB patient, resistant to five TB drugs, this person may be determined to be XDR (Extremely-Drug-Resistant) and has been given a No-Board order for all airlines (remembering Andrew Speaker two years ago) so cannot return to their homeland of Monrovia. this person is somewhere in my state's communities, living daily life among us with a communicable air-borne disease, by law cannot be quarantined. this person is living somewhere among the constituents, possibly even family and friends of the senators and congressmen who here all voted in favor of PEPFAR.

please let this sort of information drive your lobbying passion, as we now have five years of appropriations lobbying to face. TB is here and now much closer than any of us dare to think.

thank you. stay close.

It was our pleasure to welcome Senator Frist and his group to visit us here at Ministerio Arco-Iris in Zimpeto, Mozambique. We greatly apprecaite the work of people like him and organizations like Samaritan's Purse. We live with children (and adults) whose lives are changed and often saved by the kindness of others. As Ginny commented above, organizations and individuals can - and do - make a difference!

Senator Frist has done this kind of work for years with very little recognition. He is doing great work to help humans who might not receive medical care if it were not for his efforts. One.org is a great organization and their efforts are exceptional. Organizations and individuals can make a difference. Congratulations to One and Senator Frist.

I'm a long-time supporter of Save the Children. This is such a meaningful blog. I would say "wonderful," but of course it's so much more than that.
