<description>Thanks Virginia for this emerging news on PEPFAR. It is much welcomed and we can only hope that this is the beginning of a SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME FOR PEPFAR!

A successful outcome for PEPFAR means millions of Africans who are alive and thriving because of this program get the chance to continue their lives; that millions of Africans who would have caught the HIV/AIDS virus will not because of the prevention efforts of PEPFAR and that millions of African children who have been orphaned by AIDS will continue to receive the basic daily care that they need to survive.

But I AM NOT JUMPING FOR JOY - I am wondering what took Sen. Reid &#38; the Democrats SO LONG to take this action? I am wondering why millions of ONE members &#38; others have had to lobby our politicians - sign numerous petitions, make numerous phone calls to their offices and make in-person visits just to do something that should have been a no-brainer?

NO - I WILL ONLY JUMP FOR JOY WHEN PEPFAR IS RE-AUTHORIZED BY THE U.S. SENATE.

If the Democrats &#38; the Republicans were as dedicated to this program as Sen. Reid claims in his statement then all of our advocacy for PEPFAR wouldn't have been necessary these last two months.

By their actions - or historical lack of action on PEPFAR re-authorization, this is a HOLLOW statement of support from Sen. Reid &#38; his party ( and I say this as a Democrat).

To PROVE their loyalty to PEPFAR, I would encourage Sen. Reid and his party to simply walk the walk and stop simply talking the talk on PEPFAR.

I, AS ONE, DETEST THE WAY THAT THE FUTURES OF MILLIONS OF AFRICAN PEOPLE HAVE BEEN USED AS A POLITICAL FOOTBALL BY BOTH PARTIES IN THE SENATE....and it will be hard for those politicos to win abck any respect that I had left for them.

I REMAIN....ALWAYS ONE in the Spirit, debbie :)
