Senator Barack Obama’s statement:

“Today, an estimated 40 million people around the world are living with HIV/AIDS, with over 4 million new infections in 2006 alone. HIV/AIDS is a global health crisis that demands a comprehensive and immediate response. I am proud to cosponsor this legislation, and I urge my colleagues to bring this important bill to the Senate floor for a vote as soon as possible.”

I have been advocating for Sen. Obama (& Sen.Clinton) to co-sponsor PEPFAR in the U.S. Senate for the PAST MONTH here in the ONE Blog.

Looks like one of them finally heard me. (smile)

Now, if Sen Obama can only work on getting his colleague, Sen. Harry Reid, to RELEASE PEPFAR FROM LIMBO and bring the legislation to a vote – that would be excellent!

“According to CQ Today, it is unclear whether the legislation will reach the Senate floor this year. Supporters of the measure had hoped it would pass the Senate ahead of the Group of Eight industrialized nations summit in July. However, Reid’s aides said there is nothing he can do in response to the petition. In addition, Senate Democrats have been unwilling to bring the measure to a floor vote because it would “give [President] Bush an item for his legacy on his way out of office,” according to some advocates. “There’s no political win for (Reid) if it passes,” one advocate said.”

The PROOF of Sen. Obama’s commitment to PEPFAR will be shown in his actions for PEPFAR & not just in his words.

Take very good care. Blessings always.

ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE – debbie :)
