Delivering PEPFAR Letters in Kansas

Janette Coil and I, members of the KC Metro ONE group, delivered hundreds of letters on behalf of constituents all across Kansas urging our Senators, Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, to sign onto a letter drafted by Senators Richard Lugar (R-IN) and John Sununu (R-NH). This drafted letter asks the Senate leadership to schedule a vote on PEPFAR reauthorization as soon as possible. Neither Senator was in their office when we stopped by to drop off the letters; however, I am hopeful that the shear number of letters will make it clear that Kansans want PEPFAR renewed promptly to continue life saving aid to the extreme poor in Africa.

I urge anyone who cares for freedom in America to realize that we can’t send taxpayers’ money as donations overseas for two simple reasons that it is first unconstitutional and second contributing to our overwhelming debt. You can start your search for the truth by looking looking up Dr. Ron Paul
Go see what David Walker the comptroller govenor of the U.S. has to say about our debt, watch movies online like America:Freedom To Fascism. Maybe if we didn’t have a debt and there were no poor in America then I would be all for donating some money to Africa or where ever, but it should be my own money, your own money that you donate of your own freewill to these charities. Using public money is stealing from the less fortunate of this country. Davy Crockett learned this from Horatio Bunce. The Real Knowledge is just below the surface.

    John G -

I am currently umemployed and having been part of the working poor in the USA for the last 20 + years as a single parent trying to work her way of poverty.

I am part of the first group of original ONE volunteers when this effort started over four years ago and have been an African advocate for over 25 years.

I am NOT made poorer by offering less than 1% of our federal budget to programs that fight AIDS & extreme poverty in Africa.

I am made richer in spirit when I see myself as part of a worldwide community of people trying to make our world a better & more equitable place for ALL of God’s children.

I would suggest that you & those who have your very narrow frame of reference try it.

PLEASE don’t use those of us who are poor in this country as a pretext to spout your ideologies. I DON’T LIKE BEING YOUR POLITICAL FOOTBALL.

Thank you very much. GOD BLESS ONE.

ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE - debbie :)

How are you unemployed and part of the working poor? Then you try to hide the value of 50 billion dollars as only 1% of the budget but our budget is exactly what needs to be fixed. We are on the verge of financial collapse in this country, please do some research. Futhermore, the biggest point I was trying to make was that if you want to donate money to africa, take your own moeny and do so, don’t FORCE others to do your bidding. It is very selfish of you to think that you represent the entire poor community of America and that they can afford 50 BILLION dollars to give to an unelected bueurocracy to ration out to impoverished nations. A lot of this money would go to big pharmacuetical companies that mix other drugs into the HIV medication, using the African people as test subjects. I’m not using you or the poor as a political “football”, I’m trying to leave more money in the hands of americans who need their own money so they can use their judgement to donate to their own causes etc. The only narrowminded person is the one that thinks they speak for the entire community and thinks that they know what is best for their money. What happened to freedom?
“Woe to those who decree unjust statutes and to those who continually record unjust decisions, to deprive the needy of justice, and to rob the poor of My people of their rights…” Isaiah 10:1,2
GOD BLESS AMERICA! (if you still don’t agree, let’s discuss this further ;)

I was laid off from my job on 23 May 2008, Mr John G. I have been part of the working class poor in this country since I became a single parent over twenty years ago.

I will not discuss my private economic woes anymore with you in this forum or elsewhere - you have already proven yourself to be quite ignorant of poverty issues (how one can be unemployed and still part of the underclass “working poor” in the USA).

I was simply answering the irrelevant statement that you made about foreign assistance for Africa and trying to link it to poverty in this country.

For decades reactionary conservatives have been trying to use the poor in the USA as a reason why they don’t support foreign assistance to the world’s poorest people around the world.

I’M TAKING THAT REASONING AWAY FROM YOU and people of your ilk. There are MANY people who live in poverty in this country who don’t mind having a small portion of their hard-earned tax dollars to go to help others less fortunate than themselves elsewhere in the world.

We want our brothers and sisters in Africa to have the same chance to improve their lives as we try to improve our own.

I know - as an active ONE member since the campaign began over four years ago, I have signed up to ONE almost 4,000 of my fellow Austinites (TX), many of them scraping the bottom economically. We have a heart for those living in extreme poverty around the world because we live at the economic bottom of this country.

NO ONE has the right to use us as their political football. Stand on the merits of your own philosophy without having to use others to prove your viewpoints.

BTW, the reason why I couldn’t answer your reply before now is the fact that I was out in 100 degree Fahrenheit weather this afternoon looking for a job.

    GOD BLESS ONE.

    AS ONE, debbie :)

Sorry for the misunderstanding about your situation, you should look into the reasons why this country is starved for jobs and why so many people in America are poor and are becoming poorer.
Now why would you take reason away from this discussion. It’s not me and my “ilk” that believe in government conservatism, but that of our founding fathers, the educated people of america who ratified a constitution, a COMPROMISE of agreements on the role and restrictions of government. Using this tax money for this purpose is unconstitutional.
You shouldn’t dismiss the logic in my argument that you should not speak for every one. Those 4,000 people don’t represent the millions. Try not to assume anything. You make an ASS out of U and ME. I don’t discourage you from donating your own money to these charaties, but don’t touch money that doesn’t belong to you, that is stealing. Each and every ONE of use can try to respect the BIBLE’s commandments.
    GOD BLESS AMERICA AND FREEDOM

P.S. “NO ONE has the right to use us as their political football. Stand on the merits of your own philosophy without having to use others to prove your viewpoints.”
    THEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING?:
