Hey, Aaron - thanks a lot for the clarification. I have a lot "on my plate" lately & I may have not have completely understood the posts.

Now, if we could only get more co-sponsors of the sign-on letter & more co-sponsors of the bill than we would be in better shape.

Next week is an "off" week for me at work so I plan on being a lot more pro-active on this issue then. (especially seeing that the Senators should be in their home districts during that time)

Thanks for the updates on this. I know that ONE will let us know what more we can do to help push PEPFAR re-authorization through the Senate.

ALWAYS READY TO LIE ON THE TRACKS IN FRONT OF THOSE TRAINS, debbie :)

Sorry Debbie, I should have been clearer. Senator Collins has signed the Lugar-Sununu letter to the Senate leadership (Senators Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell) asking them to get PEPFAR reauthorization to the Senate floor for a vote. She has not yet co-sponsored the bill, which is what Senator Smith just did. Senator Smith has also signed the letter to Senators Reid and McConnell. So the lists are:

Co-sponsors:
Joe Biden (D-DE)
Richard Lugar (R-IN)
Chris Dodd (D-CT)
Richard Durbin (D-IL)
Chuck Hagel (R-NE)
Edward Kennedy (D-MA)
John Kerry (D-MA)
John Sununu (R-NH)
Gordon Smith (R-OR)

Lugar-Sununu Letter Signers:
Dick Lugar (R-IN)
John Sununu (R-NH)
Elizabeth Dole (R-NC)
Gordon Smith (R-OR)
Bob Corker (R-TN)
Chuck Hagel (R-NE)
Susan Collins (R-ME)

Thanks Matt for your show of support. Has there been any progress today with this effort?
For Africa's sake, I hope so.

Debbie,

Great point. Bono has the set the standard high for us and now it is time to take action.

I don't see Sen. Collins' name on this list, Aaron. Aren't we up to 10 Senators on this sign-on letter?

Personally, I'm really concerned about the long-term ramifications for the millions of African people who are currently alive because of PEPFAR.

What happens to them if this initiative is not successful?

I hate to think of the answer to my own question. I only hope behind the scenes ONE is bringing out its "big guns" to fight this battle for Africa's Future. (smile)

We simply can't afford to lose this one. This is ONE time that we may literally do as Bono asked us to do several years ago:

be willing to lie down in the tracks in front of the train that may be carrying millions of people to their deaths from HIV/AIDS.

May God bless our efforts. ~
