The Chronicle of Philanthropy lists several conferences occurring regionally over the summer months. The Chronicle of Philanthropy is published weekly and is probably available through your local public library. I would suggest looking through some of their recent publications to see if there is something available in your area.

Yes traveling to DC can be an expensive proposition. I know in our area there have been several groups gearing up to go to DC. While I won't be attending those conferences I am participating in the planning process. I enjoy being in the loop and it keeps me up to date on current issues and thoughts.

The only problem with this idea, Margaret and others, is money. I have no money available to jet off to DC to join a conference or a lobby day this Summer.

The irony is that exactly the people who SHOULD be at these conferences - the working poor and the marginalized people of U.S. society, the people who do not have the several hundred dollars to take days off work to join these conferences - are exactly the people who can't afford to go!

Thus, these conferences, though they mean well, ostrasize from their ranks the very people who best know poverty and struggle in this country and who best can feel the pain and suffering of those around the world.

I won't be in DC this Summer - not for lack of interest but for lack of funds.

ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE - debbie :)

thanx margaret,

a great idea to list them all - i am really looking forward to the summer in both washingtons . . . your's and mine! these lobbying days can be a last great push for the 110th congress and the senate before the busy fall and winter campaigns kick into overdrive. and i appreciate how your office keeps us abreast of updates and action items here and in the mail list.

great day to you, stay close,
