Bono on Idol
April 10th, 2008 at 9:02 pm | posted by Virginia SimmonsIdol Gives Back just featured Bono during his trip to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In the piece Bono was next to a woman named Elisa. A photo is below.
[Elisa was banished by her family when they discovered she was HIV-positive. The rejection led Elisa to try to take her own life several years ago, but thankfully she then got help from a wonderful local health care facility called PASADA and today she is on AIDS medication and doing very well. She has become a volunteer in her community, working with TB patients, and is engaged to be married. PASADA’s work is funded in part by America, via contributions to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and PEPFAR.]

Really? How much money did Bono give? What about all the time and effort he expends on behalf of the forgotten people of this planet? Does that mean nothing? Giving is not only about the money, it’s about raising awareness (especially among Americans) that there is a whole world out there in desperate need of aid, including poor Americans. I don’t care if Bono has never contributed a penny; if I’ve contributed more money than he has, I’ve still given less than he. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who give so much of themselves and their time. A volunteer’s or activist’s dedication should not be based on how much money they may or may not have given. Peace to all.

Bono-
After being a huge U2 fan for many years now, YOU have inspired me, and many others, to reach out to help those in need. Because of who you have become, (as lead man of U2 AND of your fearlessness to speak your mind to raise awareness) you are able to gain the attention of so many people all over the world– not for yourself, but for those in dire need. You have caused so many to become aware of the tragedy going on in the world and have reached out to help in so many ways. Thank you!!! I too feel that if I was able to meet anyone in the world and shake their hand, it would definately be you, Bono !! Thank you and Love Always, Natalie
