Sorry I'm so late in responding to this.

Sammi, I'm so very proud of you.

You deserve this moment. This is a victory for all because this is a victory for ONE. We are ONE. And I thank you for being an inspiration and the voice for millions.

Gem i,
Speaking for myself, there is no need for you to apologize. All of us feel very passionate about what ONE is accomplishing and working to accomplish. All of us are very proud of Sammi and everything that she has done. Having said that, I think that we can honestly disagree with each other, and not have it reflect negatively on our unity of purpose. I appreciate your feelings and your passion, and respect your right to express yourself. Peace and love.

I have done some reflecting on the manner in which I posted, and can only apologize for my lack of discretion. While I still believe what I believe, I am disappointed that I let my irritation get the better of me. Not only is my post inappropriate for this forum, it tarnishes a blog entry about a stunning accomplishment and the hard work of many individuals, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth - and for that, I am truly sorry.

This was a strong representation by ONE and hard work, I'm sure, congratulations. We just found out the day after the hearing that Rep. Ray LaHood (R-IL) confirmed verbally he will co-sign HR2266.

To put everything into perspective- we all are here for one common cause- and that is the peopl e of Africa and other poverty stricken countries. Certain people do tend to promote their own activities for the group. While their fight for ONE is great and maybe they are or are not well rooted in the movement, sometimes that self promotion is not necessary. Highlighting how you consistantly devote yourself to ONE and how much time and money you give sometimes is a turn off to people who are looking for an outlet to channel their own support with. By seeing people who consistantly flaunt how much money and time they give makes some who are searching for something a little bit put off because they cannot contribute as much. I know this to be fact as people have commented to me in my area before about such responses and self-promotion. Instead of showing blatant support and commenting on I have done this or that, I think Sammi's lead and show her devotion by action not by words on how much have or have not been done. It does not matter how long you have been active in ONE or how much you contribute! It matters that you are here- whether it is five minutes of support or five years of support! Remember it is about global poverty in Africa and other countries- not look at me I have done so much for ONE, Ive met Bono, and everything inclusive to such. If it is not about receiving public acknowledgement for your own actions, don't boast your resume of contributions! Let's look to people like Sammi who are working quietly to make things happen!!

It doesn't matter if we are speaking for Africa or with Africa- awareness is being created! That is key! ONE by ONE we can make a difference, but we must do it selflessly and whole heartedly. Sometimes a "Good work" is all that is necessary when one is accomplishing something- not a personal pat on the back in the very next post. Let's tone it down and remember who we are here for- not ourselves- we are here for ONE!

I think (no, really I do) that we would all be served by not letting personal feelings get involved in this. Jesus said a house divided against itself cannot stand. We have a common goal and attacking each other not only takes energy away from that goal, but destroys our house. If you don't like self promotion, fine. Read the blog, shake your head and go on. If you feel you have to give yourself kudos, fine. But don't be surprised when rocks are thrown at your glass house.
We need to work with politicians to accomplish our own ends, but politics is a game with incredible stakes and if we can't accept that the only thing sure on both sides of the aisle is glad handing and making empty promises then we are in the wrong area of helping. Our house cannot be divided or we will fail and there are too many lives depending on us to fail.

Good job Sammi!!
