Budget Update
March 10th, 2008 at 3:25 pm | posted by Virginia SimmonsSince Friday, ONE members have been encouraging their senators to support the Smith-Feinstein Amendment to restore $2.6 Billion to the international affairs budget. In just a few days more than 63,000 ONE members have already signed the petition.
The debate for the 2009 international affairs budget began on the floor this afternoon. You can watch live on C-Span online. Most likely, the Senate will vote on the amendment on Thursday.
Please sign the petition and send it on to your friends today. Billions of poverty-fighting dollars are on the line.

I have just called into my Senators’ DC offices and faxed them my letter in support of the Smith-Durbin Amendment.
I encourage ALL my fellow ONE members to CONTACT YOUR SENATORS and voice your support of this amendment to restore ESSENTIAL money to the FY2009 federal budget that will fight AIDS and extreme poverty!
Thank You for your concern and your activism for Africa’s Future.~
Take very good care, my friends. Blessings always.

Thanks Virginia. What happened to Sen. Durbin? (smile)
Actually, to be honest, this stuff with Congress really aggravates me and probably a lot of other ONE supporters because a lot of these people in Congress will grin in our faces and maybe even put on a whiteband for a photo op and then go right back to Congress and think nothing about ripping the heart out of some of the programs that fight AIDS and extreme poverty!
Their lack of consistency and clarity on “our” issues does not make me very partial to politics and politicians - whether Democrat or Republican.
Thanks for letting voice my opinion about this matter.
AS ONE, debbie

Sen. Durbin is a co-sponsor of the Dear Colleague Letter supporting the Amendment.
