Hi, ONE members! My name is Taylor and I work in the press office here at ONE headquarters in Washington, D.C. Yesterday I did something I absolutely hate – I went to the doctor and got shots. Why? Because later this week I will be traveling to Africa with President Bush, First Lady Laura Bush and legendary Live Aid and Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof.
Bob and I will be visiting sites in Rwanda and Ghana where US-funded programs are providing life-saving medicine for HIV/AIDS, putting kids in school, creating desperately needed jobs and giving hope to millions of people. These programs are the direct result of YOUR support. When we get to Africa, Bob and I will be sending you reports on what we’re seeing and how your money and support are working to improve the world.
Also, I’d urge all of you to check in here as much as possible over the next week. Ginny, who runs our blog, has asked some very special guests to provide great content during the Africa trip. I know you’ll enjoy it – and I look forward to writing to you again soon. Thanks for your support – keep it up!

I am anticipating your reports from the ground in Africa. I always love to hear the reactions and opinions of people who are actually seeing the aid in Africa and the results that it brings. I hope this trip will bring even more awareness of Africa and cause our presidential candidates to commit to trips in Africa if they win the election. I am praying for a great trip for all of the Americans traveling in Africa with our President. Thank you ONE.org for helping us to be better informed and more compassionate Americans. Thank you for showing us the crisis in Africa.

I was in Rwanda 4 months ago with a group from my church. The poverty and living conditions were incomprehensible, especially in a region called Bugasera. I am wondering if the president will be visiting this area. It is remote, there is no clean water, no jobs, not all children are in school, the one medical clinic has limited supplies and no clean water, etc., etc. Can you tell me exactly where the president will visit in Rwanda? I think it’s wonderful that he’s going!

It is as if Africa is a forgotten continent. I am interested to assemble a team of individual interested in rainwater harvesting projects. We can work one village at a time. Vegetable production, fuel wood and solar energy projects can change the lives of many. I am an extension forester.

Hello fellow ONE member,
I appreciate Bono speaking out on behalf of the worlds poor and sick. Don’t forget that the number one question asked Obama was “Will you legalize marijuana?”. Think about the benefits that medical cannabis can have on the millions of suffering Africans. I am very disturbed when I hear that UN Police are using international aid money to persecute cannabis growers in Africa and destroy such an important beneficial crop. Bono has enormous influence on UN leaders, and some of the world’s most powerful people. Please don’t think for a moment that by removing cannabis the UN is in any way helping the poor people of Africa or any other continent. This is a grave injustice, and I’m sure the sick and dying Africans effected by such laws would agree. The cannabis plant can help to provide food, clothing, shelter, safe medicine, and eco-friendly fuel. If the One Campaign really wants to help the poor, we should let them grow hemp, and if we must get involved, help them succeed in taking advantage of the many benefits of the hemp industry.
I hope Bono keeps up the good work, and helps to stop the bad work.
Thanx. www.nycamp.org
