If Children Can Do This…

tomorrowOn Friday, January 25th, Rockrimmon Elementary school in Colorado Springs produced a talent show to benefit ONE. The show was organized by six enterprising fifth graders (with help from their parents and teachers). It contained 40 acts and went off without a hitch. When asked why they did it, they said “Because we want to help the children of Africa.” One of the children had seen a video at her parents’ church during the summer and proposed the idea.

The children and parents had signed media releases, so we took photos, some of which are attached. These kids were adorable! They were also very well educated on the conditions in Africa. I am so proud of this display of compassion and perseverance.

If fifth grade children, on their own, can do this…what can we do?

Thanks so much for posting this, Josh. It really gave me a smile.

As a former early education teacher, I know just how inspiring children can be when they make up their minds to help others. When given the idea that they can make a difference for good, children will step up and show us the way how to care for those less fortunate in the world.

I would like to say to all those students who took part in this program: “Well Done!” May your concern for the world’s poorest people continue to grow in the years to come.

And thank you to the adults who encouraged these young people. The most important thing that we can give our children just may be an open and caring heart.

GREAT POST, ONE!! Let’s see more posts like this from the grassroots here in the ONE Blog.~

Take very good care of each other, everyONE. Blessings – not just for those who kneel.

ALWAYS ONE in the Spirit, debbie :)

    Simultaneous pains

    It pains me
    In the heart
    And in the mind
To think of the less fortunate

    Those children
    In poverty
    No food to eat
    No education
    Without education
    How can these children dream?

    How can they know
    of life’s possibilities?
    Expand their horizon’s?
    The distraction is too strong
    Their stomachs,
    Empty

But these people can be helped
    If we all join together
    We can save some
    Not all
    But to do this
    We must become
    ONE

I would of joined the talent show if I had my drum set then. I really enjoyed watching them in the crowd. A few months after,I saw that we we raised over $1000 dollars from it and I felt really good about that. Seeing how much a kid my age can do is amazing. I really think they did a good job in the talent show. I would like too be part of One. I read the news every day with my mom too see what is going on in the war and in poverty. My dad works at a company called Compassion International which is a child sponsorship program. My parents are in Australia right now and my dad went for a business trip and my moms going for the heck of it. I cant go because I don’t have a passport. And thats all I have too say for now!
