We are at an HRC (Human Rights Campaign) event here in Las Vegas in lead up to their much anticipated caucus tomorrow morning. We are chatting with patrons handing out water bottles, bands and t-shirts. We are also signing up local caucus goers to caucus for ONE and submit our ONE plank to their local caucus platform. So for the event is going great, I will update as we go along here in the Silver State of Nevada!

The HRC event is filling up here at the Clarke County government building and our fearless ONE member Michele Meyer coming all the way from Iowa is banding everyone in sight. The excitement surrounding the caucus here in Nevada is reaching its peak and all the campaigns are making their last pitch to get out their candidates supporters. It’s almost decision time and ONE t-shirts and bands will be everywhere all across the state. This is a new experience for most involved here and ONE is lending a hand where we can while getting ONE recognized in each party’s platform.

Kate Walsh has been campaigning around the state for Obama and arrived minutes ago here at the Clarke County Government building. We gave her a band and a sticker talked about ONE and got a photo. There are ONE bands and stickers all around the room!

There are many representatives speaking on behalf of campaigns and issues. Our own Megan Jones spoke on behalf of the ONE campaign and had a great reception. Megan did a great job and articulated what our campaign is all about. Great job Megan! There is much love in the room for ONE Vote ‘08! The event went great and was a very successful productive way to go into the big Silver State caucus. We are ready to end poverty, are you? The fight continues tomorrow.

Just making a comment about the important Bill Gates speech today. And delighted to see Yunus and Gates linked up. Gates is merely carrying on the legacy of Carnegie and others. Never mind the sensationalists who take his ideas out of context. It’s not a revision of capitalism he’s after (those are the Journal’s words), it’s more about really taking capitalism back to its roots. If one looks at that original Adam Smith essay Gates mentions, or at Yunus’ work, or at Napoleon Hill’s analysis, then one must conclude that “giving” has always been an essential part of all-out capitalism. However, beyond that, there is also a “poverty mentality” that is crippling many countries and for that matter, many communities right here in America. How can your “ONE” concept address poverty in it’s broadest sense, to include the mentality as well as the condition?
