Hi, my name is Danny Dwyer and I am a freshman at Southern New Hampshire University and a member of ONE.
Senator John McCain just visited my school with MTV and MySpace for a presidential dialogue on Monday. This was a time for him to answer questions we felt were important when choosing the next president of the United States. When I found out that he was coming I signed up to attend and wore my ONE shirt during the taping.
On the night of the show, I unfortunately was not able to ask my question about how John McCain planned to help fight global AIDS. But there was an upside to the night for me. During the break he stepped off stage and came right up to me, shook my hand and thanked me for coming to the event and supporting such a noble cause.
He told me that he hoped I would be able to talk about ONE because it was a topic he was very excited about. On his way out after the event he shook my hand again, but this time I noticed he was wearing a ONE bracelet. And even though I was unable to ask my question, I was shown many times on TV wearing my ONE T-shirt. This hopefully got the message out that global poverty is a serious priority to the youth of America and the next president, who ever it may be, needs to take a stand.
