At ONE, we believe that we can save lives with cost-effective measures like mosquito nets to prevent some of the million deaths from malaria every year.
We also believe that we can have some fun, too. So, a couple of us got into work a little early today to place a mosquito net, given to us by Malaria No More, in ONE’s Dayna Cade’s office. The net protects her entire office from the potentialy dangerous malaria-carrying mosquito bite. Granted we’re in DC and our chances of catching malaria are slim to none, I think Dayna understood our message.
In a couple weeks, I’m going to Nigeria to help out with a center for widows and orphans, where malaria is a huge cause for concern and the need for malaria nets is great. While we may not have meetings under mosquito nets (as pictured above), I hope I can play a role in getting the children in Kwoi, Nigeria, covered in nets – a simple measure that could save their lives.

Hello Anne,
I have been living in Yola, Nigeria for the last 2 years since I work at the new American University of Nigeria we are setting up here.
I have started an NGO to promote reading and literacy here in Adamawa State and so if you want to discuss any way that we can also help with your effort I would be glad to see what I and others here can do. There are at least 30 Americans working here now.
Of course many die from Malaria here and Adamawa State is often forgotten when it comes to aid and programs like yours. Best wishes –and enjoy your trip!
